Post by Lynwood »

Has anyone stayed in this villa? Are there are reviews? Anyone have any photos? Thanks for your help.

Lynwood, at first I thought I was experiencing deja vu but then I realized we've had this coversation before :)

And here is what I said about Casa Blanca in another post:

We stayed at Casa Blanca two or three years ago. It was decent. The pool itself was pretty nice. The place was somewhat run down inside (the the laminate cabinets were rough looking, the tile was dated, that sort of thing), but it was fine if you don't need anything fancy. There is one bedroom (with a/c), a full bath, and one main room (which is comprised of the family room area and the kitchen).

One of the best things about the place is the abundant genip trees that hang over the deck area...yum. We had never eaten any before but the lady who rented us the villa introduced us to them...so now we look for genip trees every place we stay.

There is also a tower deck thing at Casa Blanca that you can go up in to get a really good view. It isn't mentioned on the website, but every person in the guest book recommends hanging out there at sunset...we did a couple times, but the bugs really like me so I try not to be outdoors too much at night.

Casa Blanca overlooks Frank Bay and is about a 5 minute (or less) walk to ZoZo's.

We stayed there in 2005, and it was on the dingy side then, so hopefully they've made some upgrades.

Teresa Rae-must be I missed your prior posts when I was doing my searching-we've booked Casa Blanca for a week in March. You're right about the "tower", it's not mentioned anywhere. I hope it's still there! Plus am I correct that Casa Blanca's actually like an upper level apartment? I'd read that in one of the posts somewhere. Is the pool private or shared then. And lastly, what's a genip tree? Thanks! I don't mind dated, but dirty's another story.

Casa Blanca is the upper level of the house. When we stayed there we didn’t even realize that the lower level was also a rental...we thought it was just the owner's area or something. We never saw anybody coming in or out of there and I’m not sure what the parking situation would be if someone was there at the same time. I don't know if the driveway is wide enough for two cars.

Awhile after we stayed there I realized that the lower rental is Blue Marlin.

Here's the picture from the website:

The gate on the right goes to Blue Marlin on the lower level. The gate on the left goes to a set of stairs that take you to the upper level, which is Casa Blanca. The pool is just behind the railing on the upper level. The pool is only for the renters of Casa Blanca, and the gate at the bottom of the stairs locks.

In this picture the stairs are to the right of the pool:

The genip tree is on the left and hangs over the pool. There are genip trees all over STJ, and the villa greeter was the one who introuduced us to the fruit. We ate genips the whole trip. They are very tart if not in season, but can be sweet enough to eat in the late summer. YOu just kind of crack them open in your mouth and chew the fruit off of the pit (the pits are big).

This is what the fruit looks like:
