STT-Trip Report - An Embarrassment of Mangoes

Post by C Urchin »

Neltjeberg Bay - Hubby and I headed out in the morning to try to find the beach at Neltjeberg. 4 wheel drive is necessary but the road is not as bad as it used to be. Some parts of it are paved now.

After going up and down several roads and me saying, nope, not it, nope, wrong road, and hubby thinking to himself, I'm sure, she doesn't have a clue where we're going and she won't admit it. . . I finally got the right road: YEAH!

Arrive finally and first thing is to explore the ruins. The ruins are so beautiful.

2 dogs joined us on the beach, very well-behaved and hung with us most of the time we were there.

We hung out, walked the beach and generally enjoyed our day. Hubby gathered up mangoes from the ground and we had so many we were giving them away for the next 3 days (Despite having eaten so many and making so so many frozen drinks with them) I snorkeled to the rocks on the right but nothing really to see and the water was stirred up.

Funny thing was, when I went to snorkel, one of the dogs swam out after me and kept trying to push me back into shore. Don't know if he was trying to save me or warn me. . .

No one on the beach except us. . .

We took a pic of ourselves

Had dinner at our new neighbors that night - good food and great company.

Another great day in the VI

Very cool. I had no idea this existed on St. Thomas. I need to find out more about it. Thanks for sharing.

I love the pose on the palm tree! Very cute! Hmmm- this is the 2nd post I've read in as many days about dogs swimming out with people and trying to communicate with them...
Here's a toast to you on the coast....

Thanks gobucs and C Urchin. I will definitely try to find this place, it sounds great! Of course I'll need to get someone with a 4-wheel drive to take me because it doesn't sound like a place for a Celica! :D
