VG Part 6 - Parrots, Bears and "Really Bad Eggs"
VG Part 6 - Parrots, Bears and "Really Bad Eggs"
So this morning I wake up thoroughly pi$$ed because it's now official...I've turned into Iguana woman. No more nice cuticles, no more smooth heels, no more young skin, and no more not being chronically required to lave up with moisturizer. Now, I'm back to bathing in that sh*t! Life is cruel! To top it all off, if that's not the Oil of Olay icing on the cake, some little bimbo at the grocery last night called me mam! I mean, I was still on the "hot mom" high and she had to go and send me flailing into the depths of despair with one little 3 letter word. Just for the record though, mam is my mother, I'm still a miss, Ms. If you must, but definitely NOT a mam! capiche?
This morning in Virgin Gorda land, and after a few lazy minutes of total satisfaction on the heavenly beds (did I just say that!?, it's all about comfort ok? I mean really people, I know what you were thinking so get your mind out of the gutter and take mine along with you!), we decided to obey the grumbles in our tummies. After the usual morning bikini choice ritual, we hop in the car and decide to head over to the Flying Iguana for breakfast. Hmm, this is a trippy little spot, real different, and if you're in the know and play along, I'm sure things will work out fine. I had casually mentioned this place to Michelle earlier in the week after perusing the menus in the office. She told me to "wait on that one until you've had a couple meals under your belt and have had the chance to get use to us here." Huh? Well ok, now I'm morbidly curious so I definitely need to go and see what's up with that!
The Flying Iguana is right in front of the airstrip which is right in front of the ocean so it's kind of a cool little spot. Critter Boy was in true form and high tailed it over to the Parrots as soon as we walked in. We had a peek at the bar, grabbed a table and sat down. Almost immediately, what must have been a radio controlled toy plane (it was that small), came into land. Ok, this place is starting to become interesting. I can watch other peeps take off and land on these flying things to determine if it looks safe or scary, and if in any speck of doubt, remind myself that I will NEVER, EVER, step a toe into one! Pretty soon, some annoyed lady from the group of yuppies at the table next to us hands me a menu, rolls her eyes and says "they will not come to your table to take your order, when you are ready, go tell Lenny what you want at the bar." Ok, works for me. So we walk up with a "good morning Lenny, we are starving and in desperate need of sustenance! Will you take our order?" I thought I detected the most minute crack of a smile when he grabbed his notebook waiting for me to continue. Honey and I ordered the eggs and ham, Drama Girl ordered a turkey & cheese Sammie and Parrot Boy wanted what else? A cheeseburger & fries. Shocker! So I'm thinking why are these two having lunch for breakfast, but whatever flips their pancakes I guess. We all wanted OJ with our meals and I gotta say, as pleasant and clear as I was trying to be, Lenny had a hard and slightly irritated time taking our order. It was all good though until we got our meal. 1 liquidy non seasoned scrambled egg and a sheet of paper thin deli sliced ham chopped up into an oblivion. This was served with 2 quarter sized pieces of plain toast and our glasses of OJ. Honey and I did choke it down while secretly lusting for the sandwich and burger, especially since Parrot Boy was too busy with the birds just now to eat, but now I'm thinking that my little peeps must have had some sort of premonition about the eggs and decided to act on it. Lenny must have noticed that Bird Boy was bent when I asked him to come back to the table and eat (I know, fun sucker, right?), so he brought one of them over and set it on his shoulder. He was in seventh heaven talking, playing and sneaking him a nice, choice fry or piece of fruit once in a while and then Drama Girl got into the action while we watched another one of those flying toy carts come in for a landing. After settling up, we are standing there with Puck watching the yuppies taxi down the dirt and he says "that plane is way overweight. We better watch to see what happens." WHAT!? So we're sitting there watching, me with my entire body clinching and it's BARELY up, up and chugging up and "it's gone" he says. About now I'm needing a good, stiff drink from the scary a$$ flight and I wasn't even a passenger! So the verdict is; birds were fun, planes were fun, Puck & Lenny? I could see how you could loosen em up, but the food, well the eggs especially, were not so much fun!

After the "really bad eggs," we decided to drive up to Coppermine Point to check out the ruins there. It's cool, but I guess but I'm not really a ruins kinda girl as they certainly don't hold my attention for that long. I go, I view, I snap, I'm done, lets go. I am still holding out for the great pyramids and the Valley of the Kings though. It's on my list of 100 things I'm gonna do before I die. It's pretty close to the top if I remember right. Right before shark feeding in Tahiti and touring the castles in the highlands of Scotland. So after that, and because it was burning hot outside, we all agreed to head back to Guavaberry and chill at the cottage for a spell where Critter Boy had great fun playing with bugs, lizards, and hermit crabs. Before long Soca and Pearl came over to visit and play for a while so Critter Boy was completely and totally entertained. Our four legged friends decided to move on after an hour or so and then Spider Boy decided it was time for a spot of Turanchula fishing again (the little freak). I was pretty comatose on the deck by this point so with a couple of beers in me, really didn't give a flying fig. Not sure where Drama Girl was but I think she might have been taking a princess nap in the arctic room. Smart girl! At least the A/C we paid for is getting used right?

So this afternoon I had made plans to take the afternoon snorkel trip with Kinto on the Ponce de Leon that leaves from the Bitter End Yacht Club. Honey and Drama Girl didn't care to snorkel this afternoon but they decided to come along for the ride and to have lunch and check out the resort. We took the drive down to Gun Creek and caught the free ferry that runs every hour on the half hour (I think) over to Bitter End. After 5 or 10 minutes, we made it to the Yacht Club and while Honey & Drama Girl staked out a choice lounging area, Nick & I high tailed it over to the activities desk to pay for our excursion. The rep at the desk says "$35" and I'm like "WHAT!?" I mean, I thought $120 was dirt cheap when we went out with Dive BVI! This just gets better and better!!! He also told me to greet Kinto as "Brown Bear" cause he'd get a kick out of that. So we get that all squared away, check out the resort for a bit then it's time to meet up with Kinto. Kinto is a very nice man who is fun as hell. When I greeted him with "your Brown Bear!," he said "who told you to call me that!?" I know it's some kind of an unsuspecting tourist thing and boy did they see me coming but he smiled, laughed, and was very gracious about it. His boat the Ponce de Leon is a large, flat, party barge kinda thing with benches all the way around, awesome tunes, a large chest of libations, and plenty of room to dance and act like a fool if you feel the need. There were only 6 of us this afternoon but I could see it would be a seriously great party with a large group. I was hoping we'd go out to Eustatia Reef but as it happened, he took us to Mosquito Island. The tour was from 2:30-4:45 so we had plenty of time to get some serious snorkeling in. Kinto had the music jamming as we jumped off the boat and started out. It was really great out by the rocks. There were lots of huge fish, turtles, and even a couple Eagle Rays which are my most favorite things to see so that was exciting. Since It was just me and my little buddy though, I was too busy watching him like a hawk to get any good pics. The real, sad truth to that however is he was really keeping an eye on me. He's a much better snorkeler than I am. The kid free dives to about 30 feet! I hate when he does that! He's a strong swimmer and totally keeps his cool at all times (unless there is a Stick Shark around).
<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C02471.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C02471.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Getting back to the boat, we endulged with a couple drinks, danced, and chatted it up a little. The only bummer for me was when one of the ladies whom was vacationing with her honey whipped off her mask to reveal a pair of long, perfectly placed eyelash extensions. I knew I forgot to do something before we left! I was pea green with envy because of my spiky, wet, little stubs, but I asked her how they held up on a snorkel vacation and was even more jealous when she indicated they did as good as they do back home. That's a real pi$$er! On the way back to Bitter End, we cruised the shallows (and I do mean shallows, Holy sh*t! That boat goes REALLY shallow!), looking for critters. We were rewarded with tons of Turtle and Ray sightings. I think I counted 9 turtles and 3 rays and because we were in like 2 feet of water, it was really, really cool! On the way back we cruised past Necker Island and you know, I think I'd give one of my boobs to stay there one time. Could you just imagine?

Note to self: Get the eyelash hookup next time and hope like hell you win the Power Ball Jackpot!
Back at the yacht club, Nick flipped Kinto a tip so he could feel like a big man and after hugging our new friend, we left to find the lame peeps. I know Honey was seriously bummed after hearing all about the cheap, fun times we had cause if there's one thing Honey loves, It's CHEAP! I'm pretty sure it's his most favorite word in the wide world! Drama Girl was sporting a darker tan and was perfectly happy with her choice to lim at the Bitter End but we were all ready to hit the ferry back to Gun Creek by then.
During the drive back to the cottage we all were all feeling lounge lizard starting to kick in so we decided to stop at the Bath & Turtle for dinner to go. We ordered the Cheeseburger Pizza with Caesar Salad and took it back to Guavaberry for our last night and last dinner on island. Both the pizza and the salad were very tasty so it ended up being a great idea. A lazy, satisfying and to Honey's pleasure, a cheap meal. For the cherry on top of this fine day, we watched a most glorious sunset sink seemingly into the ocean waves. It was magical, a final and fitting farewell. Almost speaking to us as if to say, "come back and see me sometime," and I will...I will.

Shoot you guys! I have to apologize! After I submitted, I realized I screwed up the chronicalization of our four legged friend shots. This was pre Honey Whoville. I was trying to be as careful and as acurate as I can. I guess that's what happens when you drone on as long as I have. The good thing is that the others are basically the same sans stache.
I'm glad you are enjoying my stories. I'm having so much fun re-living them! Thanks for reading!!!

LOL Rick! You would not believe the sh*t we girls get ourselves into! Drama Girl goes once a month to have her eyelashes permed so she doesn't have to exert herself to curl them with the eyelash curler. She even has one that's heated like a curling iron!RickG wrote:Enjoying this! Eyelash extensions? I think I need sensitivity training.

Sounds like you need a high maintainence 101 course. You probably aren't in the know cause we don't talk about things like that with Honey. It just leads to "how much did that cost," and that really tends to bring me down from a fun day out doing girlie stuff.

We went to VG for a week in May and loved it. Reading your reports brings back nice memories of our trip. Next time, the BEYC snorkeling trip is a must-do. We limed a lot in the afternoons and didn't spend time down that way. Agree on dinner and jumby show at Leverick. Great time, good food and not too expensive. Would definitely do it again.
Sorry you didn't have a good meal at Flying Iguana. We had brunch one morning after hiking the Baths early. Hubby loves planes so we enjoyed watching them land. And yes, we did arrive on one (Air Sunshine) a few days earlier. The landing is interesting...
We had a great breakfast there, West Indian eggs (peppers, onions, spices), Bushwacker French toast, and mango pancakes. Puck was very friendly and chatty. I got to play with the birds too, which I loved. Its breezy with a beautiful view out to sea and over to the hill going to Leverick side of island.
His telephone service went dead, so we couldn't pay because we only had credit card, not much cash. He told us to come back later and pay (which we did).
We also had lunch there one day - whatever fish specials he had. Great meals again. I would recommend it.

Ya, but I never tell my girls how much my hops cost per ounce!chrisn wrote:Sounds like you need a high maintainence 101 course. Now I'm worried that as a single Dad I'm not exposing my daugthers to enough experiences. I thought a pedicure was cool. Now, eyelash perms? Can they do that for my ear hair?
Its a fun story, I love your point of view. Its just alien enough to make wonder if you're pulling my leg.

LOL on the eye lash extensions. Daughter and I were doing some pre-trip shopping in Louisville today and there was a lash extension kiosk right in the center of the mall. Some lady was laid back in a chair having it done. Right across from this spot was another lady having her teeth whitened. Eye lash perms? That's a new one for me.

Just go and have a wax job at the spa!
