Trip Report part 4 (with lots of pics)

Post by Kentuckygirl »

Friday, June 5th
I was up very early, so I made sandwiches, painkillers, and Pia's skeeters to take to the beach today. We packed several coolers, smaller ones to take to Leinster/Waterlemon, then a bigger ones for the afternoon. Our house was pretty much the earlier group, so we parked at Annaberg and hiked to Leinster Bay.

While snorkeling around Waterlemon Cay, we saw Angelfish, Parrotfish, Blue Tang, turtles, and various corals.

There was a starfish bed and more turtles near the beach.

We had some painkillers and cheese and crackers before hiking back to our jeeps.

We met the rest of our group at Francis Bay, ate our sandwiches and spent the afternoon there. There were conch and sand dollars around the right side, towards Mary Point. We floated and hung out the rest of the day there.

Down the beach from us was a group of younger people (maybe college aged) playing a game on the beach similar to corn hole. They were very nice and invited us to play too, which some of us did. One of them said, "We want to be like you all when we grow up." ...or when we get old, or something like that.(ouch)
Image
We went back to the villa to decide what to do for dinner. This took a while. It was late and I was done, so I went to bed. Some of our group left to grab a burger at Skinny Legs and had a little crisis. I woke up around midnight and heard something going on in the kitchen. I went to see what was going on. Evidently there was a dehydration issue while they were at Skinny Legs that included a run to the medical center. It was a little scary for them at the time, but everything turned out fine.
Next up ... BVI trip with Flyaway Charters.

Just back from Cinncinati and I had this to enjoy! You played cornhole? Is this a KY special game?

Cheers, RickG

Cornhole is not a KY speciality...we have it down south too. I'm curious...What were they using to pitch in the sand in place of the bags?

I also want to know about this mock-cornhole game. The boards are obviously a little, um, hefty to get to STJ, so how were they playing? Inquiring minds want to know!

Sorry I'm so late answering these questions. I've been at the orthodontist with my son all morning. We didn't mail anything down, although I might consider it when we go with the kids. Hubby took all of our snorkel gear in a backpack made specifically for snorkel/dive gear. They carry them at New Horizon's Dive shop in Lexington. My "personal item" was my beach bag. I put a small cooler inside of it with frozen steaks and chicken. It was still all frozen when we arrived. Everything else fit in our carryon luggage. It is really easy if you take time to think it through. I have last minute packing friends that struggle and therefore overpack. :D

MaryBeth, Thanks for asking. Yes, he was fine.

RickG,
I can't believe that you haven't played cornhole! It's great for tailgating.

On the beach you just dig a couple of holes and use rocks instead of beanbags. We've been playing a similar beach game for years that we call "roly holy", using tennis balls and 3 holes on each side.

Oh no! Now he's going to want to know where to get the UK corn hole game. When we downsize, I hope there's a market somewhere for UK stuff. I'm going to need to unload a ton of it.

Can you come and help us pack? I'll reiumburse you with painkillers, or any other drink of choice.
