Reputable online camera seller?

Post by Teresa_Rae »

Before our next trip to STJ (in two weeks!) I'm considering treating myself with a much better camera than the one I have now.

I'd like to buy a Canon SLR and I'm having a hard time being able to tell which online companies are reputable.

Photo Dynasty has the best prices but when I google them they don't seem like a reputable company...but I want to get a good price.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

T-R...I have used B&H Photo several times and have been very pleased. Most recently a 17-40mm lens (ON SALE)for my new Canon 40D!!! Quick shipping and typically have decent sales! As a matter of fact...I just received their new catalog just this week...hmmmmmmmmmm

For my money, it's B & H. While I have shopped locally recently, in the past I used B & H and recently picked up two "guidebooks" on Digital Photography and the author also recommends B & H.

The sites mentioned so far are at the more expensive end of the range I've seen for the camera I want.

Anybody know anything about Ritz Camera?

b&h is good. I've also used www.jr.com for some accessories.

There currently a Canon Rebate program for all sorts of goodies - check it out.

T-R, This link http://www.dcresource.com/ will give you various on-line places, with ratings, to buy digital cameras. They also do an exceptional job of reviewing digital cameras.

Not to give this guy shameless plugs but you might want to check out www.kenrockwell.com

My wife and I went shopping for the right camera specifically for our STJ trip and after searching the internet up and down came across his website. Not only does he tell you which camera to buy in every flavor, he tells you how to use it in my language (man)

I went with the Nikon D40 based on his recommendations.

We have purchased through Ritz both locally (store)and through onlien site. We've had good luck with both, found them knowledgeable and when we had one lens with a smudge on an inside lens they actually replaced it within a day or two.

"Ritz Camera" - where? In NJ?
You have to be careful of on-line electronics - B&H and some of the others (J&R) mentioned here usually have very low prices. If you are seeing things (name brand items) at much better prices, you need to be sure they aren't gray market - items meant for other markets that won't come with US warranties, etc. and are probably being illegally sold -

I'm talking about ritzcamera.com...they have stores all over, I think I'll check them out today :)

I've come across those gray market cameras, I don't want to get stuck with one of those.

This may seem too simple, but have you tried amazon.com? If you know what you are looking for they will list all the available stores and prices. Most of the stores have been rated by previous customers and you can choose a store with a high rating.
