The View from Luna Vista - Day 1

Post by jimg20 »

I woke up at about 5:15 as the first light of the day came into "our" villa." I say our villa because it already feels like home.) I have been waiting for this particular sunrise for too long to miss it by going back to sleep. Since all of you have so generously shared your experiences and wisdom with us, I wanted to thank you by sharing this with you.

The travel day, chronicled on another thread, reached a fitting conclusion at the STT airport.

We made our way from our seats on the plane to the STJ dock in 1:15. This was mostly due to the unchecked luggage status of this road warrior. Mrs. G did not appreciate the need to do this. We will likely be checking luggage on the way home.

We picked up our slightly damaged (and duly noted) Jeep at Courtesy, stowed our bags and went walking. We picked up our books from Low Key Watersports for our Open Water Diver certification class we will take starting Wednesday. With the music of the Beach Bar calling us, who could resist.

We enjoyed our inaugural Bushwackers and returned to Island Time. :D There was a large crowd from a wedding that will happen Tuesday. We found some Forumites with the help of Wishwewerethere (yes, they were there) and ST John Ruth.

Some of you will recognize St John Ruth, Wishwewerethere, Barb Y, Joe Pagon and Mrs Joe.

Wishwewerethere guided us to the Starfish Market and then on to Luna Vista. The reason that we came in contact with WWWT was because they were a previous guest at Luna Vista (LV). Neither they nor Ccasebolt oversoled this place or our hosts. More on LV later in the week.

I sit here looking out on the sunrise and the water and I remember that today is Memorial Day and why we are able to sit here in this place on this day and enjoy all of this. It also occurs to me that the reason the US acquired these islands was part of a war strategy. When you get the chance today, or any day, thank a veteran for their service.

JIM

PS I hope this photo thing works.

Nothing like real time reporting to make the rest of us feel like we are there. Thanks, Jim. Have a blast!

Thanks for the photos and report. I had forgotten that you are staying in LV. I can't wait to hear more about it. We met Bruce and his wife in March and got a tour of their home (above LV) but didn't get to see the actual rental because there were guests at the time. I can't wait to hear more about it and the rest of your trip. We'll be staying there in August and I'm counting on it being a bit cooler than the west side.

Have a great trip!

Thanks for the great comments.

VickiH, we don't have any crappy cell phone pictures. I don't want to compete with a master even if I am risking losing your attention.

Cypressgirl, you will love it here. The window in the larger bedroom has the best breeze on the island. Bruce told us that there was an A/C unit in the bedroom but "no one has ever needed it yet." We'll work on a full review later, but I think it will be a repeat of the many good things already said about this villa.

Thanks California Girl, we need to spend a little more time recognizing the men and women who have served, those that are serving now and those that will serve in the future.

We are eating in the villa tonight. Stay tuned for the breaking news in tomorrow's edition of The View from Luna Vista.

Hey - that view looks familiar! :)

Glad you are enjoying yourselves. Isn't LV great. Jan and Bruce are just super. Please say hello to them for me. Give little Frankie an extra pat too. She had a rough time of it a few weeks ago (required back surgery), though I understand she's on the mend.

Enjoy!
