olympus cameras

Post by waterguy »

All you under water camera people becareful of sand on the gasket for the battery housing. I was in a hurry one day and didn't wip it off before I replaced the battery and water got into the camera I think it is shot was letting it dry out to try it again. I had the 720 for 2and 1/2 years so not to bad I keep telling my self.

Ugh, good luck. We just bought an Olympus DSLR and are getting the underwater PnS before our next St. John trip. Our favorite camera sales(wo)man told me that though the underwater Olympus cameras are great, you do have to be careful when opening either the battery or memory card area. Bummer - I hope your memory card is intact so no pictures were lost?

It actually says in my 790 manual that you need to replace the seals/gaskets annually :o

Hey Tom,

I bought the recently released 1030SW. I like it quite a bit better than the 720. Turns on faster and pic to pic is much quicker.

I'm seeing $350+ for the 1030. Is it that much better then my 720 that was <250 last year? We love the 720! And now we need a new camera for our trip next month (two kids... have to have 2 cameras.. right???)

Is the 1030 wide angle worth the price?

The 1030SW has a faster processor. Makes picture to picture and burst rate faster. Turns on almost instantly. 10 megapixel as well.

The 1030 is capable of 640x480 video at a full 30 fps. That means the difference between choppy video and smooth video.

Also the 1030 is good down to 33 feet instead of 10 ft. The 1030 has support for the very large SD memory cards too. Up to 16GB at the moment.

Is it worth it, probably not, but I went ahead and blew the extra hundred bucks.

only $100 extra for smooth video, fast refresh & 16 gig of St John? that's less then a tank of gas.

Olympus camera water seals

Post by Bill W »

Has anyone here actually had the seals replaced on their Olympus camera? Ours will be three years old by the next time we get to STJ, and I'd hate to get there and have it die the first time we take it out. On the other hand, would the cost of replacing the seals be greater than the cost to replace the camera by the time it's that old?

Wow, SD on the new 1030! I'll tell you those xd's are expensive and harder to find than the sd's that are carried in supermarkets like film these days...

We have the 770 and love it..Weve used it in the pool and at the different beaches. Never had any trouble til we put it in a hot tub and it started leaking water..I sent it back to Olympus and they replaces the seals and had it back to us in no time, less than 2 weeks..Ours also says the seals need to be replaced yrly.

replacing seals

Post by Bill W »

What was the cost of replacing the seals? We have the 790, but I assume the cost would be about the same.
