St.. John w/kids

Hi all,
We will be heading back to St.John in June and taking our kids (girl age 14 ,2 boys age 9) for the first time. We are looking for some suggestion of things to do with the kids since we are usually doing the adult thing. I have the mini golf at Pastory already on my list. Please help with some more, I think the boys will be fine but my 14 yr daughter is bored every 10 minutes.

Get her a mask and fins that fit and she will have a blast. There also is horse back riding.

Get them snorkling equipment if you haven't already. Buy an underwater digital camera for your daughter to use.

Plan a walk over to Drunk Bay from Salt Pond. The kids love the little people.

They will get a kick out of a place like Skinny Legs, so plan a long lunch there.

Does your place have a pool? That'll be good for an hour or two at the end of the day before dinner.

Before you go, make up a scavenger hunt and use it as a week long contest. Spot a mongoose, list all of the dip signs you see, bring dad a cold Carib

etc. Have a custom winner's t-shirt made before hand as an incentive.

I think the Westin has an iguana feeding every afternoon which might be of more interest to the boys. You can also spend a few hours there on the water trampoline and such at their beach. We took my 15 year old niece a few years back (along with our two sons) and she, unfortunately, hated snorkeling or swimming as she was afraid of fish

! She did enjoy just laying out and getting a good tan!

You could take them on a dinghy adventure or rent kayaks, have lunch/brunch at Miss Lucy's with the goats, day trip to the Baths, Reef Bay Hike, etc.

Please don't be offended, but what is there to get a kick out of at Skinny Legs? I have never "gotten" that place. Every time I've been there it smelled so bad that I didn't want to stay to eat. A lot of people love the place so what am I missing?

Skinny's they can play darts or horseshoes a 14 year old girl can wander the shops.

In my opinion, you're not missing a thing. It's like having lunch in the middle of a sweltering junk yard, that smells of urinal cakes. Okay, that was bit harsh, but that's my opinion...Marcia's, too, but she probably would have said it somewhat differently.

In theory the place is great, but in practice, not so much.

We tried to play horseshoes but couldn't take the stench.

And Pete, I'd say it is more of a urine smell and not so much cake

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. The snorkel gear is already packed and the hikes area a great suggestion. My place does have a pool. As for Skinny Legs, I perfer Shipwreck Landing and always have since my first stop there maybe 10-12 yrs ago. I also have a under water camera, another great suggestion, I can make it into a picture contest for them.

Hi Scott,

In addition to the suggestions above, our kids (boy 9 and girl 11) had fun kayaking -- we rented from Crabby's in Coral Bay and he dropped the boats in Princess Bay for us. They also had fun hiking to Ram Head and Drunk Bay, having lunch and seeing the goats at Miss Lucy's, and doing a snorkel trip with the Sadie Sea. We rented some boogie boards from Crabby's (he only had a few) and they really enjoyed those on wavy days.

If your daughter gets bored snorkeling, she will probably enjoy hanging out at the beach with a book or some magazines.

Carolina Corral is my daughters' favorite - 1-340-693-5778

They love to go for ice cream when we are hanging out at the Beach Bar.

Virgin Daiguiris at Woody's.

Vie's for snacks and beach.

Sloop Jones for very cool clothes.

Haulover Bay for hermit crabs and snorkeling.

Little Lameshur for beach and sugar refinery ruins.

Cinnamon Bay for 14 year old boy watching.

Coral Bay for dodge goat and dodge sheep.

Shipwreck Landing and Jolly Dog.

Island Blues for Karaoke night.

Reef Bay hike.

Lets face it, 14 year old girls say "I'm bored" about 20 times a day. My response is to give them chores to do until they learn to stop saying it. On the beach an ipod and a book works wonders. It will take another 20 years for them to yearn for boredom, we call it relaxing.

I love taking the kids. I get to do fun kid stuff!
