ok, what would you do?
I posted a little while back asking about Sapphire Beach Resort on STT....and I got several responses about it from here, from VINOW and tripadvisor. Today, however, someone posted on Vinow that the restaurants, beach bar/restuarant and beach party are no longer in existence due to management issues....
SIGH......
What would you do? Would you chance it? Would you find an alternative on st. thomas? Would you do st. john instead?
Our reasons for stt this time was that we have our 3 and 5 year old with us and granpa, and we thought staying "ocean front" or very close to it was the easies and best thing for all considered. We liked the kidea of the resort type atmosphere to grab a quick drink or bite to eat.
we are going at end of June......
torn...what to do?
We don't expect the ritz...and our last trip was a spontaneous trip in December and we did Cinnamon Bay with the kids.....so we don't need luxury, kwim? But we'd like to meet everyone's needs this trip.....
suggestions? Ideas?
Holly

Don't cancel until you call them. If it's going to mean a loss of money then go there and eat elsewhere. If you can get a refund, look to stay elsewhere. You chose that location for the convenience, but it sounds like that's not going to happen. I'm sorry. That's awful for you so close to your vacation. It's hard when there are young children and your grandfather involved.

thanks for replying! 53 views and no responses...eeeks! LOL....
My husband is good at playing the devil's advocate...so he is convincing me that not having the restaurant and bars isn't that big of a deal...we will have our own kitchen and beer! LOL.....We plan on venturing out and a day trip or 2 or 3 to our favorite st john....
he's probably right....we wanted to be on the beach for the sake of the kids and granpa......and nobody is complaining about the beach!
thanks again for replying

I wouldn't worry about the restaurant. You are going to be close to Red Hook with lots of good places to eat. If you have a car you can travel around to other restaurants.
Sapphire is actually a good place when you're with children. Right on the beach and a good activities center right on the property.

Hi Holly,
I agree with promoguy AND your husband. You are quite close to Redhook and there are a bunch of places for food, drinks and supplies.
I really enjoy Saphire and I think it's a great choice for families!
Can't say I ever heard anyone rave about the onsite restaurants anyway.
Just being steps away from a great beach with shade and the proximity to Red Hook would make me stay over anything else!
Enjoy!
Kathy

I too would look into Secret Harbour. My first trip to the islands (12 years ago) was to a villa just up the hill from Secret Harbour. It is a great little pocket beach, and staying right on the beach can not be beat! They have a nice pool up the hill that has an awesome view and I love The Blue Moon Restaurant right on the property. The units are condos, so you have the convenience of a kitchen, you are close to Red Hook and the Ritz Carlton if you want to spluge.I have read some awful stories about ducks in the pool at Sapphire Beach Resort, and I am sure is they are true, you would not want your children swimming in that pool. It would be tough for your kids to see a pool and not be able to swim in it. I like the beach at Sapphire, but if the property is as run down as some reports have indicated, you will be wishing your whole vacation that you had not gone ahead with your plans.Good luck. I am sure that you will still have a wonderful time!

Your welcome Holly. I agree that Secret Harbor is very nice and the Blue Moon is great, however the beach area is tiny and quite cramped for space.
Guess it depends on what you really need...nicer property or nicer beach. I figure your not in the condo much really and depending on how mobile Grampa is I think SH might be more of a challenge.
I think your hubs has the right idea with you all in mind.
Good luck!
