those magical moments...

Post by suzi »

Tell us YOUR magical moment on STJ, like PSW described when " the Love I Lost" was playing and everybody from the villa starts dancing and singing...
On of my best magical memories is this...Beach Villa, 3 families ( 6 adults,7 kids) , first night at the villa, doors and windows open...Moms and Dads are all getting spagetti dinner ready, everybody in the kitchen and the USHER song "Yeah..." blasting ( it had just come out) "take that, rewind it back, Little John got the beat that make yur booty go..." You know the one??? No one is singing, everybody just dancing , Moms dancing with trays of food, Dads dancing with drinks in hand, kids dancing all around the kitchen... I will never forget it. and to this day whenever I hear that song it reminds us of STJ and that evening... we will never forget it...

Mine was the first time I went to STJ and I saw it from the ferry. The feeling I had was that this was that island that I had dreamt about my whole life. That happy place that I went to in my imagination.
Cheesy maybe, but true!

Halloween in Mongoose. Someone who works there dresses like the Wicked Witch of the West - she is scary good, green skin and all. This year Dorothy showed up with a blue gingham dress, red shoes, a picinic basket and Toto (Cairn terrier). The kids a great fun, but the adults are a freak show. Every time I hear Buffett sing Christmas in the Caribbean I am reminded that Halloween in Cruz Bay is the best.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

I wasn't there and I don't know you , but every time you relay that story, I think that it might be my magical moment, too.

It really is the perfect moment to describe the magic of the island.

We (hubby, mom- & dad-in-law, bro- & sister-in-law ) are gathered at the outdoor table having some pre-dinner apps & cocktails.

Sunset is blazing, the lights on St Thomas are starting to shine.

Buffet is on the stereo.

Mom-in-law makes us "boat drinks" and they go down smooth as frappes.

Mom-in-law keeps asking where we want to go for dinner but at the same time keeps the blender running and the glasses refilled.

We start talking about opening a diner called "Mal's Friggin' Fritters".

Then the giggles hit and we are done.

Dinner consisted of cheese, crackers, bean dip and boat drinks.

The 8AM sailboat charter the next morning was kinda rough but we got through it.

I haven't had a magical "moment" on STJ, but there is a knowing that STJ is a very spiritual place. Energies surrounding sacred sites create vortices. Sensations are heightened, colors more vibrant, details more clear, the mind is expanded. There is a reason we return time after time......each of us experiences the vortex of energy in a different way, but most of us know there is a special reality there. All of us who are addicted to STJ feel it.

My husband and I were married in the Dominican Republic with 40 of our friends and family. It was a BLAST, but towards the end of the week I was really wanting some alone time with my new husband. Thankfully, at the last minute before our DR trip we had decided on a short 5-day honeymoon to St. John, an island we knew very little about.

Getting there was exhausting. We were completely drained from the week before, we had tons and tons of luggage, our flight was delayed, and on the cab ride from the airport we got a flat tire. I even started crying in the cab as we were stranded in the dark on a busy street in St. Thomas.

We somehow made it to the ferry, and it was pitch black when we got to the island. Our villa rep led us to our car rental and then to the villa. It was scary driving on the left in total darkness. The villa was gorgeous, but we both crashed in a heap on the bed once we got there.

The next morning was the magic moment. Because it was so dark when we arrived, we had absolutely no idea of the beauty we would wake up to. We got up with the sunrise and ran out to the deck of the villa, like kids on Christmas. We stood there in absolute awe of the view, our arms around eachother. It was so amazing. For the rest of the week, we kept saying, "I cannot believe this place."

Magical is the right word.

I'll tell you pjayer's magical moment even before she posts. Her ancient husband who had not flown in 16-17 years (due to a healthy respect, not because he was afraid of flying  ), while sitting on Trunk Bay, off a cruise ship in December, 2006 said, "I've gotta come back to this place." Went back home, booked reservations and flight arrangements and visited in July 2007. Not only that, booked a cruise from San Juan (and you can't drive there from Ky) for April 2008, went by to visit St John again and has now booked another visit for July-Aug 2008. Talk about magical moments!!!

I have several ... (that I can remember)

1 - Miss Lucy's full moon party, after many many rum punches, the guys wandered off to the waterside while the girls hung back and chatted with Hamilton the taxi man.

2 - My daughter chasing chickens along the beach and into the woods (she still talks about the chickens in the woods at "the" beach - those who have not been to STJ definitely DON'T get it).

3 - Having my family, all safe and sound, floating in the calm of Maho.

4 - Getting to the top of Ram Head and taking in that view, it was both magical and a miracle :D

If this isn't a great way to take an afternoon nap I don't know what is...

The first time I arrived in STJ it was at night. The electric was out. It was raining, no moon, no stars and pitch black is an understatement! I awoke in the very early morning to a odd animal honking noise. I opened the door to our cottage to a sun coming up over the blue turquoise sea and in front of the ocean cliff was a male peacock opening his multi-colored tale feathers like a fan! WOW
Peace,

So many magical moments but one of my favorite
was when I shot my pilates DVD at Gallows and Jeff and Russ from on-stjohn were the producers.
It was Dec and it rained on/off for a bit while we were shooting and then a double rainbow right over this ship.......It made me really believe I was home........

Best Moment

About a month before we left for St John I had the most vivid dream. I was floating in the most beautiful blue water with the sun shining on my face.
And I said to my husband, " I can't believe it. I am here in the Caribbean."
We went to trunk bay and as I swam out in the water and turned around, I realized that this was exactly my dream. Exactly the same water, trees on the hillside. I told my husband that this was the weirdest experience in my life.
