I just booked us with Rachel for our July trip, and she was very nice. If anyone is arriving on July 26 and would be interested in sharing the taxi, just pm me.

Island Girl, Thanks for the referral to Rachel! I just got off the phone with her as well. I think you are arriving about 2 hours after us, so Rachel is having her brother drive us over to Red Hook so she can meet with you. Maybe we can meet at the Beach Bar sometime during our stay. We're going sailing with Peter on Breath on the 9th. Since its just the two of us, he may be looking for some additional traveling companions. We usually sail with Clark, but he's taking White Wing to Trinidad for the season shortly after our arrival. Thanks again for Rachel!
Rachel is well worth the money. Last September a taxi driver lied to us about going non-stop to Red Hook. It took us over an hour and we missed the 5pm ferry and had to wait around for the 6pm ferry. That was before the new ferry terminal.
Rachel got us there in less than 30 minutes. She is a wonderful person. You will not be disappointed. She charged us $25 each. We were the only ones in the van. It may be cheaper if there are more passengers. We gave her $60.

I would tip Rachel 20% of the fare. The ferries from Red Hook run on the hour every hour. If you check luggage you may have a tight run to make the 4:00 ferry. Carryon and you will definetly make it. If you miss the 4:00 then enjoy a delicious cocktail or two at the new ferry terminal bar and start getting on island time. The ferry ride to St, John from Red Hook takes about 20 minutes. It's a qiuick pleasant ride. Enjoy!
