Need help breaking out of NS rut - Villa suggestions please
Hubs and I waffled back and forth about going to Virgin Gorda next year instead of STJ. After much debate, we decided to stick with what we know until our son (who will be 3.5 years old) is a little bit older - sort of a why mess with what we love rational.
Hubs is having a hard time considering anything not on the North Shore. He is all about easy beach access.
I am more open to looking towards other areas, especially Coral Bay. I am trying to bring him over to my side.
We stayed in Maria Bluff in 2007 and while we loved the house and neighborhood, we did not like traveling back and forth thru town. Therefore, we probably wouldn't stay on that side of Cruz Bay for a while.
Because we were always so focused on one area, I feel like we are starting over.
Our needs/desires:
At least two bedrooms, maybe three
Pool with lots of sun. We like a sunny, hot patio and a nice size pool.
AC or TV/entertainment not terrible important.
Not really interested in a long commute on dirt roads. Challenging drive is ok, just as long as it doesn't take forever to reach the main roads.
A nice house. I don't need fancy or plush but I like a well maintained, up-to-date house. I think I am spoiled because in 2005, 2006, and 2007 we stayed in villas where the owners spent lots of time (according to the rental agents) and the upkeep and furnishings reflected that.
I love Reef Madness but see they don't want kids (only stating info, not complaining).
Esprit was on the list until I heard about it being too cool to use the pool.
Coral Cove looks interesting too, larger (maybe) than we need but Hubs would love being right on the water, even if the beach wasn't usable.
Adeste looks nice.
I would appreciate any input, advice or suggestions!
Also, who is VillaFish? The website looks very nice. Are they on-island?
Thanks!

If I can talk my family into staying in Coral Bay, this one is on the top of my list next time......I don't think the drive is too hard.

Have you seen Forts Cove? I think it looks intriguing. I don't know if they have age restrictions or not.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
I had looked at Forts Cove for our September, 2008 trip and had to cross it off my list because it was stated that children over ten are welcome. Our new grandson will be only 9 months old when we are there.

We're staying at Pink Horses a 2 bedroom w/ pool, A/C in bedrooms from 4/17-5/1. We have always stayed on the other side (Rendezvous Bay area), but really liked the Coral Bay area more last year. Will let you know when we get back what we thought. Apparently this villa is very popular and they recently added a garden dining area.

Bordeaux Breezes?
We met some folks who invited us over for painkillers at the villa they were renting. Didn't have to ask me twice.
I think it was called Bordeaux Breezes and was certainly up to date with a humongous stainless steel kitchen, a gigantic LCD or plasma television, one of those pools with an invisible edge (or whatever its called)with a decadent view out over Coral Bay, a hot tub, expansive deck and cavernous rooms.
If it's "just like home" you seek, this is it. The only thing missing is vinyl siding!

FUN AND CONTENTMENT
cypressgirl......I agree, you should talk them into Coral Bay. We stayed at waterfall last year but hung out in coral bay most of the time. Shipwreck landing is a great place and the nicest people.
Last year we stayed at waterfall in fish bay. 3 BR sun all day!

Mia - you might want to ask about your 9 month old. We are allowed to take our non-walking son to a no kids villa. The agent said as long as he wasn't walking, it was ok with them.
My dream rental would be a West Indian cottage, I actually want it to be VERY different from home. (When I say a nice house, I mean clean bedding, decent towels, usuable pots and pans, mattress that are in good condition, etc.)
Petepie - Our North Shore favorite is actually what I decibed above - Kallaloo http://cateredto.com/VillaPage/KLL

PA Girl,
Thanks for the suggestion...I hadn't even considered that possibility. Forts Cove looks beautiful and is fully air conditioned....a mandate for our third trip in September. We agreed last year that we would reguire full a/c during this time of the year....especially since our little guy will be with us. Has anyone stayed at Forts Cove? I'm concerned about mosquitoes and the quality of the view at water level. I will definitely look into their restrictions regarding a 9 month old child. Thanks again...mia

I love Forts Cove - I had shown this villa when it was for sale
To me it has a great feel about it. The water there is usually alittle rough though so no real swimming from the beach although in September it will probably be calmer. There is another house next door but you really can't see it.
Good luck

I totally agree with full ac in Sept. If you stay on the water it will be hotter and if it has been rainy at all, the mosquitos will be much worse on the water. Something to consider for you and especially your son. One of the reasons I chose Luna Vista for my summer trip is because I know it will be cooler up in the Bordeaux mountain area compared to even Maria Bluff or especially Chocolate Hole. Also, the price is very reasonable. I'm inching over to the Coral Bay side gradually.
That north shore view is hard to beat, but I see why you want to try something else.

Forts Cove/Spindrift
We stayed in Spindrift last May; it is next door to Forts Cove. The beach is very rough and we had a very hard time in the water. My sister-in-law and I both ended up with black and blues. The views are nice, but not spectacular. We had mosquitoes the second half of the week, but we did have some nice breezes which helped. You do have to watch out for the donkeys; they ate stuff left out overnight and made a mess. I did not sleep with the doors open, because I was afraid a donkey would end up in bed with me. The road to the two villas is atrocious, it is quite long, and it is very rough, except for one part that is a steep hill paved on one side. It is very quiet out there and no one will bother you

Re: Forts Cove/Spindrift
"no one will bother you". That sounds like the only good thing about the place. I'm trying to picture waking up to a donkey next to me. I've slept with an ass or two, but never a donkey.anjebear wrote:We stayed in Spindrift last May; it is next door to Forts Cove. The beach is very rough and we had a very hard time in the water.
