Coral Bay Restaurants

Post by vacationpants »

This will be our 3rd trip to STJ this June - hey!! We stay in Cruz Bay (Chocolate Hole) and head over to Coral Bay at least once during the week. We have only gone to Skinney Legs in Coral Bay and would like to try a different restaurant. I know there is Island Blues, Aqua Bistro, Shipwreck Landing. Not sure if we will do lunch or dinner - which one has entertainment, and can I get a schedule of the entertainment? Which one do you all recommend? One more question - isn't it Jazz night at the BB on Sunday evenings? Thanks so much.

Yes, jazz at Beach Bar on Sundays. Starts at either 3 or 4 PM.

For entertainment at other places, you can check here:

This is Gerald Singer's site. I hope it's OK to post this link? We don't have the music schedule on this site, do we?

While no music, we had a very nice lunch at Island Blues in Feb. We sat right on the water and the breeze was pleasant. We both had fish, mine grilled and hubs fried. It was really good.

With help from others, I mapped out a bunch of STJ restaurants and bars...I have't embedded many comments but you can get a good idea of what's where...

You can view or download with Google Earth or view in Google Maps, which runs in your internet browser...

Cheers!

We always enjoy Shipwreck for lunch or dinner. Nice views to the water, totally casual, very nice atmosphere and great food. I like the salad with grilled shrimp, hubby likes any of their fish dishes. We love their key lime pie; it tastes like just-off-the-tree fresh. One night we were there and they had a band, but I don't remember what night it was.

I noticed a sign for Aqua Bistro for steel pan music one night (not sure what day).

Love the food, service and atmosphere at Sweet Plantains. They have more unusual and highly spiced dishes, including some curries. Ate there on a breezy, moonlit night and it was wonderful.

Personally, I like the bar at Aqua Bistro best. The bartenders - Nancy and Larry - are good folks, very attentive and just plain fun to shoot the breeze with. Aqua Bistro has a great lunch menu but I'm not that impressed with their dinner offerings.

You HAVE to do Skinny Legs at least once. After all, it IS an island tradition, isn't it? But don't go there in anything fancier than shorts and a tank top. It's only burgers and beer. We did it on a Saturday night and were surprised by the live band comprised of acoustic guitar, mandolin and upright bass. Good tunes!!!

Last year we had an unpleasant experience with a waitperson and lack of courtesy by the on-duty manager at Island Blues so we skipped it this year.

Sweet Plantains is superb. Excellent food and it'll cost you. I'd save it for a special night, myself.

Special kudos to Shipwreck Landing who kept the kitchen open to serve us when we arrived a few minutes after 9 to meet some West Indian friends who had to work late elsewhere on-island. I had a NY strip that was cooked to perfection.

Finally, don't forget Concordia Grille. It's at the far end of the road but they put out a decent salad bar with FRESH organic greens and veggies. The menu is limited so we just did the salad bar a cvouple of times.
