I've cooked at that villa before. It's killer!

Super bargain for a five bedroom with a/c and pool.

You should check out www.villafish.com - ALL STJ houses! I think they have about 200 to look at and the company is locally based, so they know the properties.

lp's on my list for if(not when) bride and i decide to go to stj with more than another couple. we've stayed just above her twice, once in temptress and once in treasure ridge. 2 other villas just to west, ambiance and allesandra are on my list, all for the same reasons, some of best western views on the island and a much more convebient location than gifft hill. you won't see sunrises in may (do in middec) but sunsets and stt lights will be great.

rd to lp has only one hairly switchback just before the drive. you can see drive up upper rockridge rd at bongo boys on-st-john.com site from few months ago.

believe your crowd will enjoy.

We drove past there on Friday (the bars were closed until 4, what are ya gonna do?). This is a great location with a nice morning setting. Not a whole lot of sunset action. But, it's pretty much across the street from Allesandra. The driveway is reasonable.

Rick, why little sunset action-doesn't it have a clear west view?

La Papaya is a great villa with a southern orientation. So, the sun goes from left to right across the view. You can see the sunset, but it is off the right side of the pool deck.

You can contrast this with Allesandra across the street that has a Southwest orientation where you can see the sunset from every room in the house and the entire deck.

It may sound like a nit, but I love sunsets and its a great reason to have a party every day. A full-on sunset orientation is something I love to have.

I actually think that Allesandra and La Papaya are a great combo to rent in order to get up to 8 bedrooms.

rickG,

you're my idol for 2 reasons. you're one of few folks who gets to stj more often than me and you're more observant. i'm trying hard to remedy 1st but i'm too old to focus on anything too long and memory is very short.

yes, lp is east of and below ridge that blocks nw views (& may sunsets that will just north of stt). buttt in nov to mid feb when sun sets a good bit south of equator, lp WILL have sunsets over islands south of stt.

i also note that your pic over chocolate hole was taken before land rape of area between the salt pond and choc hole beach. what a blight on dear sweet stj. there should be a law against such plundering for profit. but without profits from some legal venture, how could we afford to go to stj? a real hobson's choice!

still waiting for your latest trip report.

Rick - This is a sunset picture that I took from La Papaya. I zoomed in to take out the power lines.

jaycimarie-

You should love La Papaya - My family of 10 stayed there in March 2007 (both sets of grandparents, wife, 2 kids & me). It's a great deal for the money, and really convenient and comfortable. Overall everything was great, the exceptions being:
1. dull knives (every villa has that problem :D )
2. Downstairs apartment could use some updating but fine for us & kids.
3. Not really a hot tub, no bubbles and takes many hours to heat up - turn it on well before you want to use it!

That said - we'd stay there again in a heartbeat! Here's some pics from our stay: http://picasaweb.google.com/rpr4394/St_john_2007
