Who have you bumped into on STJ?
Who have you bumped into on STJ?
I was thinking about my Dec. 2007 trip this morning and it got me wondering who else has had a crazy run-ins while on STJ.
On my last trip I ran into an old high school classmate at Skinny Legs. I graduated in 1995 and ran into a girl who had moved to STJ right after high school and had been living there since. Time on the island has slowed her down
We also rode the plane down with Marty Bass who is a Maryland newcaster celebrity, anyone from the MD/DC/VA area should know who he is. We then proceded to tun into him at Maho, Island Blues and in town.
So anyone else have any interesting run-ins? Share your story..

Anyone run into Kenny Chesney on-island?

Breakaway
Last year we arrived at the ferry dock for our day trip on Breakaway. One other couple, around our age, was waiting as well. We asked if they were on the same boat (they were) and we started talking.
Eventually, we realized that they lived in NC, where I'm from. Then, I learned the guy was an attorney (so am I). Then, he mentioned clerking for a particular court in NC. My best friend's brother, who tragically died in a car accident a few years ago, was a clerk for a different judge the same court. This guy and my friend's brother were good friends and colleagues.
We ended up hanging out all day, and two other times during our stay, and still keep in touch to this day. We had dinner with them recently on a trip to NC. These folks are repeat visitors to STJ, and I have no doubt we'll try to coordinate a trip in the future to be on-island at the same time.

Saw Ram Dass there in the 80s. He was there for a program at Maho. More recently I saw a guy who looked like the pope. My wife said that it was absolutely not the pope and she's probably right. Still.....I think about that once in a while and think that maybe I should have looked into it a bit more.
I might have seen Kenny Chesney. I'm not real sure what he looks like other than that hat he wears all the time. I've seen a few guys wearing hats like that. I suppose he could actually have been one of them.

Does St. John Ruth count as a famous person?
I can't think of anyone. Well, once we did watch a private concert that was happening on the beach from the upper terrace at Caneel, and John and I were fairly certain we recognized the singer, but I am not 100% sure so won't post his name here. (No, not Kenny Chesney--it was a reggae show).
To be honest, I don't think I would notice someone famous on the street or the beach unless they were doing something to call attention to themselves. I tend to walk around in my own little world most of the time.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
