Day Sails

Post by troy32 »

My wife and I are looking at booking a day sail while on our stay at St. John. We are looking for a day trip over to Joist Van Dyke. Please tell us about your experiences.

McMinnville, OR?! I've been through there on beer hunting trips. Yum!

We've done a bunch of different shared trips to JVD/BVIs. For a couple the catamarans are fun and have enough space to lounge about. There are a couple of differenty ones that pickup at the Westin or the NPS dock on STJ.

We went with a private charter with John Brandi of Palm Tree Charters in November and we are booked again for March. It was great having our own boat with a captain to take us where we wished when we wished. He has a very comfortable, fast and quiet boat too.

Now, time to drink a homebrew.

Cheers, RickG

We took The White Wing with Captain Clark. It was a wonderful trip. One of the highlights of being on the island. We snorkeled Sandy Spit then on to White Bay to the Soggy Dollar bar. Its something we would do again and highly recommend. We have a few of the pics from the day sail on flickr site. The link is below....:)

We chartered with Lion in Da Sun. Josh was really fun and took us where we wanted. We snorkled the Indians, went to Norman Island for Willie T's, then to JVD for Soggy Dollar. It was a great day.

We went to Jost with Captain Phil aboard Wayward Sailor last Feb. We had a snorkel stop, then lunch at Foxy's, which Tarn called in on the radio before we arrived there. Captain Phil introduced us to Foxy and we had our pictures taken with him. Very relaxing sail back to STJ.

We've been on a couple and couldn't recommend Gary & Joan of Bread on the Water any more highly. Beautiful, very roomy boat and two wonderful hosts.

We had a wonderful day!

We will definitely go out with them again.

I have also heard great things about White Wing.

We sail with Capt Clark on White Wing at least twice whenever we're on STJ. He's the best. I've done a bit of sailing on my own and have found him to be in a class by himself.

Our day trip in December was with Captain John Brandi of www.palmtreecharters.com . Toured the north shore of STJ, on to Tortola, check in at customs, then to Smugglers Cove(swam ashore), then to Foxy's Taboo (Jost Van Dyke) for lunch, walked to Bubbly Pool for a relaxing dip, then to White Bay for the most wonderful turquoise water and white sand you can imagine and of course Painkillers!!! Excellent leisurely day on the water with Captain John. Check out his videos! The previous year with sailed with Capt Phil of www.waywardsailor.net. Enjoyed that too, although sailing somewhat limits your time since you need to back to customs on STJ by 5PM. I would go with a catamaran.

I say go with Captain Clark on the White Wing.
He truly is a fabulous sailor but also a great guy.
I've sailed with him at least 4 times and he knows
every inch of the Virgin Islands and will make your
day very memorable.

Another vote for Cpt. Clark and White Wing. Haven't been out with anyone else since discovering him. He's simply the best.
