Not a local expert by any means, however I have driven STT roads extensively. If you are unfamiliar with these Island roads I would recomend you get a pocket map at the airport, if you don't alredy have one, and stick to the roads with route numbers as much as possible. The "no-name" roads can be tough to identify and "sharp" turns are by no means rare. If you check your dirctions against the map you will see that the roads with route nombers are not that much farther(time or distance)if you skip the no-names where possible, and may end up saving you lots of time vs. getting lost looking for the no-names. There is also a very nice overlook on Rt. 40 just East of Rt.35 that's worth a stop. Awesome views along your route for sure..

That probably is right but what makes me laugh is if you ask a "local" where Hwy 30 is they will look at you like you have 5 heads

We give direction here in the form of - go to the house with the yellow tree turn right, at the 2nd dumpster go left and when you see the donkey trail you are there

On STJ there are very very few signs that give the road number - there are a few, again a "local" probably won't know the numbers (not sure how easy there are to spot on STT) and for example, I was heading home when a tourist was stopped crossways across an intersection and was motioning to me for 104 I had no idea where that was until I looked across the street and saw the sign that had fallen down behind a tree for 104 - the road I was on and travel alot

If you don't want the scenic route, look up my directions on this page and go the easy way - traffic probably won't be backed up at that time of day.

Also, don't plan on all ferries running - we are one down right now and last week we were 2 down (but only for a day). We have been one down for about 2 months now but hopefully it will be back in business soon as it is the one that I have pre-paid for 10 roundtrips on at a discount

Just remember as well that it will be dark by 6:10pm (and I mean pitch black by that time) so if you want to arrive at your villa/hotel during daylight hours plan to be on an earlier ferry.

I also would recommend against the last ferry as priority can be given to all of the commuters heading home in their cars/trucks etc (not always but it has happened in the past) and if you don't get on, you don't get on you have to travel the next day :(

If you arrive at 2:15pm and are on time, it will probably be 3:15pm by the time you are on your way and 4pm(ish) by the time you get to Red Hook if you go straight there (and don't get lost :) ) thus being 4:30pm - 4:45pm arrival to STJ if you make the 4pm ferry, or a 5:00pm to 5:15pm arrival if you make the Mister B ferry departing at 4:30pm.

I don't believe the times you have are correct as you do not show the 4:30pm running (there is one every hour on the 1/2 past the hour) I can check but they are in my car (and I'm too lazy right now to go look  )

Just some things to think about
