Day 8: Downtown

Post by mbw1024 »

11/30/07
Today was our only non beach day of the trip. We spent the early morning lingering over coffee on our deck and deciding how our day was going to play out. We knew we wanted it basically to be a villa day but what to do about dinner? Do we go to Starfish, get take out, what to do what to do? Well, honestly I didn't feel like cooking and Charlie didn't feel like driving so what do you do in that case? Call Susie Christy! This woman is great. We used her last year for some provisions and catering. I found her number and gave her a buzz. Told her we were wanting a villa day and could she see fit to bring us dinner from Cafe Roma. No problem she says - what do you want to eat and what time do you want it there? Super. Charlie couldn't have been happier! I could already see the blender whirring in his eyes ;)

When we got ourselves together we decided it would be our "downtown" shopping day. So we set off to Cruz Bay and our first stop was STJ Spice. Boy, do we know how to shop in that place! The most $$ we spent in one single place on island I think! But it's all worth it. We love it there and if you haven't heard the owners are real nice too!

From there Charlie and I went our separate ways in town. He agreed to pick up lunch at Deli Grotto and I feel he hit some other places over there at Mongoose but I won't know until Christmas! The only thing I wanted to accomplish was getting an ornament for my ornament exchange person, so I headed to Pink Papaya.

I'm not much of a shopper so I spent the rest of my time roaming around town taking photos. Then I stopped in the park by the ferry dock and watched the world go by and had a chat with Officer Matthew.

Our plan was to meet back in the ferry area when we were done shopping. I guess it was around noon when Charlie made his way back with lunch and some other goodies :)
We grabbed a smoothie at Paradise Cafe and headed back to the villa. It was good but not nearly as good at the Smoothie place on Centerline. I added my own rum when we got home!

The sandwiches from Deli Grotto are big but so good. This was the Turkey Fresca - I think I have the name right.

We spent the rest of the day at the pool, there might have been a nap involved as well. I forget. Doing nothing all day is exhausting!!!!!

We enjoyed the sunset from our deck with cocktails and cheese and crackers. I think Charlie thought we were having company with the spread he put out

We had a great night. You know it's fun when you are taking pictures on the timer ;)

It had started to rain at some point so having Susie show up with dinner sounded like an even far better idea then originally thought! She was there around 7 as promised and she even brought flowers.

We didn't watch much TV on vacation but we did bring a few discs of HBO's The Wire with us, so we caught up on a few episodes this evening and then called it a night.

MB - Are you talking "Downtown" by Petula Clark?? If so, I bet I'm the only person on the forum to have see her perform live. Hey, I didn't have a choice as I was only 7 at the time.

Sounds like a nice relaxing day. Thanks.

Nice Pics MB. I see you are also a frequent vertical/portrait shooter.

I'd bet she'd love to take photos of Bruce at Giants Stadium on July 27, 28 or 31. Knowing MB, she'll be at all 3 shows.

Another great day!

So, this Christy person - is that the same as the catering, provisioning, party planning, package receiver - Christy? Having someone bring home dinner sounds like a wonderful service.

And yes, the ownersd of St. John Spice are pretty nice people :)
