Did you feel the Quake?

Post by alw1977 »

Did anyone on STJ feel the quake? A big one (7.0 or so) centered closest to Martinique. I've seen posts from SXM and the BVIs confirming it.

STT here and I felt it. Fairly strong and relatively long one too. Didn't rattle the windows but you could DEFINITELY feel it.

My husband felt a small one while we were in St John last week. Does anyone know what day the Martinique quake was? This will be the second quake I slept through in my lifetime. It was probably the day after our BVI excursion which was last Saturday.

This was today at 3pm. I agree with Stu, there wasn't as much rattling and noise as others I've felt, but it was looong. I put my hand on the balcony railing and it was shaking. Weird.

Thanks Ruth, My husband felt a tremor there over the weekend, wonder if there was a smaller one before the big one in Martinique.

Was there any damage from the quake in Martinique or the surrounding areas?

BTW, it was great meeting you and loved your store . Your spices were great particularly the pirates pepper one.

Connie - according to Google Earth, Martinique and St. John are about 330 miles apart.

Nope - didn't feel anything.

Best we can figure we were riding the waves at Hawksnest about that time. The surf was pretty rough. We were surprised when we got into the Jeep and the radio was buzzing all about it.
