A really important question...

Post by MarkR »

Well here I sit at work on a very slow day, watching the crappy weather turn from rain to snow. All I can do is think of STJ--in two weeks.

For the question....What do you prefer, Light Rum or Dark Rum. Is there really that much difference?
What are your favorite drinks made with either.

Throw out any great drinks made with those flavored rums also. Ready to try new drinks this next trip.

Thanks
Mark

I prefer Dark and my drink of choice is a Painkiller. You can't go wrong - yum! Happy thanksgiving!

A simple answer - go to Mixology or Starfish and buy 1 of each!
Cruzan White
Cruzan Dark
Cruzan Blackstrap

I prefer dark (amber color) rum. I feel it has more flavor then the light ones. A few years back, my wife bought a drink book on the islands called “Just Add Rum”. This book has it all. Maybe St. John Ruth may have the book.

I go with the amber Cruzan Rum ($5.49 per 750 ml at Starfish) for blender drinks, Mount Gay amber for mixed rum drinks and Goslings very dark rum for Dark & Stormies.

I did have one drink with Bacardi white rum when were there - paint thinner. Never again. There Anejo is good, though.

Generally at my house you can find 3-4 bottles of flavored Cruzan rums, plus one dark and one light.

I like the flavors for mixing and have all kinds of combos. The light is for my mojitos and the dark is for painkillers.

I'm with Rick on the Gosling Black Seal for a Dark & Stormy. Skinny's won't sell it as the bartenders tend to have a weak spot for it.

Captain Morgan and 7-Up...mmm...think I'll go make on now to get my mind on island time!
A mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open.
