iPhone usage on STT and STJ
I did a search but nothing came up on the iPhone. I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about the use of iPhones and/or ATT/Cingular coverage on the islands. I'd love to be able to use my wife's iPhone for the occassional internet session.
We're staying on the Coral Bay side if that makes any difference for coverage.
In particular, I don't want to get socked with a huge roaming bill particularly on the data side.
Thanks in advance for any info.

we used cingular last year and had no problem with coverage or roaming charges. can't really speak to the Coral Bay side as I don't recall we used it while out there.
Also, if you look here http://www.on-stjohn.com/
the 10/29 post shows Jeff's iPhone in action.

AT&T/Cingular works great on STT and STJ. Only a few times on some of the beaches did I have trouble getting a signal. Watch foreign towers on Trunk, Cinnamon and Hawksnest (you can usually get Cingular, but you might have to go in and pick it) and I had real problems in downtown Cruz Bay with foreign towers, especially at Beach Bar and Woody's. Not sure why.
I haven't gotten my bill yet, so hopefully there won't be surprises. I also got a Cingular signal the whole time I was on Jost -- at least until my dollars and everything else got soggy.
I tried to set my phone on manual network selection, but it's a pain. Everytime you lose signal, you have to go find a new one. If you forget, then no calls for you.

Thanks all for the information. Sounds like the iPhone should work out great. Not that I expect to spend a lot of time on the internet, but it will be nice to be able to check on fantasy football scores and what's going on in the forum here.
Betty: We've had Cruz Bay in the phone for months and check it daily.
