Ferry to Tortola

Post by flip-flop »

I am confused. I read something somewhere else that says the ferry from St. John to BVI only runs a few days a week and you leave pretty early (8:30 i think) and come back around 3ish.

However, when I look at the ferry schedule it looks like it runs daily and I could go over at 8:30 in the morning. Be off the ferry by 9ish & then return on the 12:15 ferry if I needed to. Is this true?

What am I missing?

Departing Cruz Bay, St. John:
8:30 A.M. Daily
11:30 A.M. Daily
3:30 P.M. Monday to Saturday
4:30 P.M. Sunday
5:00 P.M. Friday

Departing West End, Tortola, BVI:
9:15 A.M. Daily
12:15 P.M. Daily
4:15 P.M. Monday to Saturday
5:15 P.M. Sunday
5:30 P.M. Friday

The ferry directly to Jost Van Dyke only goes Fri, Sat, Sun...maybe that's the one you were reading about?

It's the ferry to JVD that only runs F/S/Su and leaves at 8:30.

There is regular service to Tortola which I believe is the schedule you posted.

To confirm call Inter-Island Boat Services 340-776-6597.

Ferry to Tortola

The ferry to the Baths runs Thursday and Sunday. The ferry to Jost runs Fri, Sat and Sun.
You can get to both the Baths and Jost from Tortola on any other day, but the schedule is cumbersome and you will not have sufficient time to enjoy either place.

Thanks. We've done the Baths & Jost and are just looking to hit White Bay really. Will the ferry & a cab accomplish that fairly easily?

See what happens when I get close to a trip. I lose my sense.

Ok, White Bay - Jost. Not TORTOLA

So, if I go on a Fri/Sat/Sun I can get a ferry directly to Jost. Cab it to White Bay. Correct?

When we went a few weeks ago, it stopped in Tortola first to go through customs. Not sure if that was a low season thing or what.

But in theory it takes you straight to Jost and picks you up at 3.

And yes, your cab will take you right over to Jost. Give Ivan a hug for me.

If you are going to Jost then you should consider Dolphin as an alternative. www.dolphinshuttle.com

They do regular trips to Jost (not just F/S/Su), they take you directly to White Bay instead of dropping you in Great Harbour and they stay in White Bay until 4:30pm .

The lousy thing about that 3pm ferry is that you have to start motivating at about 2:15 to get out of White Bay and make the ferry. It's not exactly dependable. I've missed that ferry by getting there at 2:45!

The ferry also doesn't allow food or beverages on board and Dolphin is the exact opposite they provide beer and soda! Winner!

From what I remember and have been told
the ferry to Jost runs F/S and Sun and stops in Tortola to go thru customs liks Lulu said.
I think the last ferry leaving Jost is 3p.
Maybe you will meet some cool people from STJ and they have a boat...........:)

Our cab driver was friends with the guy running the ferry that day, and he made sure it didn't leave us! We got to the dock at 2:45 and they were ready to leave! However, he told us it was because we were the only people on the manifest, so he didn't have to wait for anyone.

I just talked with Rich at Dolphin, looks like he can run my friends and I over to Jost on Sat Jan 12........and bring us right to White Bay
