Travelocity Fare Sale

Post by Ron_L »

Travelocity Fare Sale

You have to complete travel before December 13th. $237 RT from O'Hare to STT on USAir through Charlotte. (Anyone fly USAir through Charlotte?)

I mentioned it to my wife and she said "Can we find someplace inexpensive to stay"

So, I'm compiling a list. Any recommendations? So far I have...

Sailview
Valley View
Far Horizons
Windcrest Garden Suite

Any others?>

I have no idea if we can even pull this off, but if she's willing to listen, I'm talkin'! :D

We have flown several times from Charlotte on US Air its not a bad airport and the flight is usually ok you will have to put up with the relentless credit card sales no food and slow drink service due to the credit card sales but for a trip to the islands I can take the greyhound/us air flight. My vote is for booking it. We will be on it again Nov. 23.

Ron,

That's a great deal, we have flown US Air thru Charlotte without any hiccups at all. I say "Go for it!"

I can definitely recommend Sailview. We stayed there last Spring for 9 days. Mike and Eileen are terrific hosts. It is only 10 minutes to Maho beach and only 2 minutes to Skinny Legs. It is great value!! We hope to return some day.

The only downside - I know you like to cook. These are guest suites - a BR and bath. There is a small dorm-size fridge. The deck is equipped with a BBQ grill, utensils, table and chairs for guests to use. It made no difference to us, we like to eat out. With the great rate, we felt we could afford not to cook meals.

Go for it, Ron!

I can vouch for Far Horizons. It's very comfortable for two. I remember wishing my bed at home was as comfortable as the kling-sized bed there. The kitchen is galley style and small on space, but it has full sized appliances and all the appropriate equipment. There is a small dining area inside and a lovely dining area on the patio. There is a small jacuzzi spa (not hot tub) on the patio also.

The owner, Anna, is a gem. She was a wonderful resource for us during our stay. She is also an artist and her style is reflected in the apartment, in everything from walls to dishes to linens. It's conveniently located, just around the corner and up the hill a bit from Gallows.

Can't offer any insight to the others except, Valley View is named appropriately...it has no view of the water. For me, that's a big negative, although, it looks terrific in every other way.

Enjoy!!!! :)

Good find on that airfare! We recently flew out of O'hare for $330/person and that seemed to be a good price, so this is a steal.

Not sure what qualifies as "inexpensive" for you, but we stayed at Meritage Cottage (www.meritagestjohn.com)and loved it! Thanks to someone's recommendation on the forum we got there special fall rate of $1000 per week...I'm not sure if that rate is still offerred or not. This seemed like the perfect cottage for two.

Good luck planning your trip,
Brian

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I would love to go back and the airfare is great. If we did it I'd like to keep the ville/condo/whatever around $1000. It would just be Amy and me so we don't need a lot of room. A place to cook would be nice, but for me a grill is considered a place to cook! I can manage any meal of the day on a grill :D

Of course there is the other costs to consider like taxi and ferry and car rental. We're thinking about it. If we do go it will be right after Thanksgiving or one of the first two weeks of December. It looks like a lot of Forumites will be down there during those times so maybe we can meet some of you.

While it has been two trips ago, we had no problems flying thru Char. to STT.

Love the list of accomodations and everyone's input. It looks like a good future resource and I saved it for reference.

Hi Ron -

I am in total agreement with everyone else and say go! We have done the US Air through Charlotte as a return flight (had direct from ORDto STT on the way down) and we had no problems at all.

We have also stayed at Windcrest Garden suite and it was fine - it is more like a studio - meaning the bed is in the same room and separate. We liked the location and little deck overlooking the Westin. We found it clean and well stocked, I believe there was a grill on the deck but you'll have to check on that.

Happy Planning!

For that fare, I would be all over it. We have flown out of Charlotte before with no problems. I much prefer it to Philly where we have also connected. Think you should talk the wife into the week after Thanksgiving. There will be a lot of us there.

captainjay-
Are you on the 11:40 flight out of Charlotte on the 23rd? Myself, Mary Beth and onthelake are on that flight too.
Going "home" again October 26th!
