I know... It's about time 
I was going on a business trip to Vegas about a month ago and since it was right after Amy's birthday we decided to go out early and have some fun. For the weekend we stayed at the Planet Hollywood Hotel (formerly the Alladin). It was very nice and promises to be even nicer in the future. The Alladin had recently remodeled all of the rooms and Planet Hollywood is updating them and the front of the hotel right now. The consruction on the front didn't affect us at all. Planet Hollywood is also building two luxury condo towers and they are doing timeshare tours. I was curious about the towers so we took the tour (it was a nice way to get out of the 108 degree heat). The condos are amazing, but they are so nicely decorated (laquered wood, etc.) that i would be nervous of breaking something the whole time. We didn't buy
We did get some show tickets and a dinner, however. More on the shows later but we used the dinner certificate for champagne brunch at the buffet at PH and we weren't disappointed. It was marvelous.
For the shows, we saw Mystere (one of the Cirque de Soliel shows) free. The acrobatics and balancing acts were fantastic, but the stuff that they used to fill in between was just a bit weird. We enjoyed it, though. After the show we were given some free drink coupons at Kahunaville which is right next to the Mystere theater at Treasue island. We shared a couple of appetizers and a couple of free beers and started talking to the folks around us. One family was visiting from Toronto for their daughter's 21st birthday (what 21 year old would go to Vegas with her family?). We bought her a drink for her birthday so her parents bought us one.
It was called a Big Kahuna and had Rum, Vodka, Amaretto and fruit juices and had a chunk of dry ice in it so it bubbled and smoked. And we got a souvenir glass! Well... Actually, Amy liked the glass so much that we came home with four! Oh! Kahunaville has a Painkiller on the menu! They make it with Captain Morgan and leave off the nutmeg, but we ordered one with Cruzan and the waitress brought us some nutmeg.
Now that's a painkiller! Kahunaville was a fun bar with flair bartending shows and a fun crowd. We went in for an appetizer and a free drink and ended up staying until about 1AM before stumbling back to PH!
We also saw Hans Klok (free) and Nathan Burton (also free). Hans Klok put on a good show but it was a lot of glitz. Nathan Burton was in a much smaller theater and actually did better tricks. His finale was simply amazing, especially considering we were 20 feet away.
On Amy's birthday we went to Emeril's Delmonico Steak House for dinner. It wasn't cheap ($50 for a steak) but it was fantastic. We had a great waiter and the chef came out with a special appetizer for us for Amy's birthday. If you don't mind spending $100/person, I recommend it highly. After dinner we went to see Wayne Brady (had to pay for that one
) but it was a great show. He did a mix of improv comedy and singing and we had a great time.
For the rest of the week we moved to the Golden Nugget in downtown Vegas. The company was paying for this so they went cheap
. I had to work but Amy spent the time at the pool and playing the slots at he downtown casinos. We had dinner with the group from work since it was free (we went to Margaritaville (my favorite. Amy and I went there on the night we arrived and we went back with the group) and Gordon Beirsch brewery.
Overall we had a nice week. We came home with almost as much money as we left with (excluding meals and shows, of course) so we didn't feel to bad.

Glad you had fun. Daughter is moving now from Vegas to So Cal. We have had many great comps and great food while she was there at Mandalay Bay. Like another poster, I won $1000 on WOF first spin! There are some excellent restaurants in Vegas now. Not cheap by any means, but excellent. Green Valley Ranch is one of our favs along with Red Rock and Venetian. Don't be afraid to travel off the strip...lots to see and do. Don't be afraid to rent a vehicle. Glad you saw a Cirque!
