What's up with the storm on St. John?

Post by StJohnRuth »

We had some gusty wind and a shower this afternoon that lasted about fifteen
minutes....
In the last hour the seas have picked up and it's a little windier.
According to SuperDave on the 7pm news, St. Thomas and St. John may get an inch or two of rain and some gusty
winds in the next four to five hours. We should be fine here, since the
storm is pretty far away. We are very fortunate this time.
St. Croix will get more wind and rain from this storm, because they're closer.
And down the line, who knows. Many prayers for the safety of all in Dean's patch.

Thanks for the update as it's hard to get accurate information where we are. I saw that tropical storm winds extend 180 miles out from eye. Cat 4 in the next 4 hours is what weather channel is saying. Prayers are with everyone in their path. Jamaica may be in trouble, but who knows. Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the update. I was checking the web cam and the weather reports and it looked like it was going to be a pretty yucky night.

Hurrican Hunters plane left St. Croix and went through the eye and it's definitely defined, but still maybe headed south of USVI

I will be surprised if flight changes are necessary. I'm expecting business as usual tomorrow, since this storm is moving so fast.
Of course, we overprepared for the storm, so it won't actually be like that for us.....We have to put back togehter everything we took apart today!

Ruth - Thnx for the update. I feel for St. Lucia and Martinique and am so glad that you all are safe. I now fear for poor Jamaica. It looks like they are definitely going to get slammed. Take care!

We leave 8:30 from NY in the morning. St. thomas is not one of the destinations Delta is offered changes for. Fingers crossed , believe all will be ok. We will say a prayer for those to the west in this storm's path. Its going to be rough.

Yes, I will keep you posted. Plus, as long as the power is on and we have an internet connection on the building, you can check the Cruz Bay Webcam. Hopefully you'll see the usual Saturnday morning madness! Some people planning on Saturday AM Sandscrit may be foiled in their plans by the high surf, but hopefully that will be the worst of it for us.

Thanks Ruth for the first-hand update. It's great to hear our little piece of paradise is not going to get slammed.

I spoke w/Carmen from Secret Harbor early this afternoon and she said it was overcast and very still. It sounds like things have changed a bit tho'.

I am still praying for all the others in the path.
