Newbie with a new question
Hi all,
I've been lurking for a few months, and had so many great questions answered on this forum that I've not had the urge to pipe up. Until now. So, some background....We visited St. John on a sailboat trip (fab-u-lous) five years ago and I have been scheming to get to St. John for some land time since then. Finally, I have an excuse to talk my husband into a big trip again.
I am planning a big 2008 trip with my siblings & spouses. 2008 is a landmark year...three 25th anniversaries, one 30th anniversary, one late 10th anniversary (postponed by a Fla hurricane) one turning 50, one turning 40, AND one retiring! So, of course this will have to be a VERY special trip. There will be 8 of us.
My new question is --- when the villas say that two twins can be made into a king, how exactly does that work? Do you just shove the bed together and put on king sheets and avoid the crack??? Or, is there something provided that smoothes it over and you can't tell it's two beds? The reason I ask is that one couple says they want to go unless they have to sleep on twin beds and then it is a "deal breaker"!!!! Since we are drawing straws on rooms....sigh...it's always something with a group...If I know the answer, I can narrow my villa choices down. Or get more confused than ever!
Also, if anyone has any thoughts on villas for a group of 8 adults with a couple of princesses, speak up, please! I am looking in the Cruz Bay area, off season, price<$5000 per week, pool, great views, nice decor and roomy.
Thanks for any input!
Kathy

They make the twins into kings by using a strap around the box springs, usually under the dust ruffel or box spring cover and that holds the beds together. Then they place what looks like a lambswool insert between the two beds, depending on whether there is a gap or not ( mostly depends on the style of the headboards). Then the king matress cover goes over everything and then the king bedding goes on and in the upscale villas you will never know, except for looking closely at the headboards, that you are in twins made into a kind.
We have had 2 experiences when traveling with groups where the bedding was configured wrong--kings instead of a twins( for guys traveling with us) and we had to first find which beds could be separated( we couldnt even tell by looking-we had to call the villa agency) and then take them apart, which involved removing all this stuff. Many of the king bedrooms are made up like this and folks wouldnt even know, and the viila agencies would just say 4 kings.
Four great houses that I know of for groups are Island Sun, Sol Inclination, Villa Rendevous and Eden's Whim. Sol Inclination is especially nice for princesses--we are traveling with some in November and the decor and amenities are beautiful. Multiple flat screen Tv's, extra Tv rooms and a study, a fireplace and a jacuzzi and lots of privacy and deck space, Im am sure the folks here will tell you of more villas that fit the bill. Think the bedrooms at Rendevous are more equal and the setting is beautiful. You might look at Vistaero also, but that one has only 1 king.

Hi Kathy,
Glad you decided to de-lurk! Welcome!!
I personally don't like that "push those twins together to make a king" thing - they do that on some cruise ships, I ALWAYS end up in the crack!!
Here's a couple of 4 BR villas with great rates, all BR have big beds:
White cottage located on Fish Bay, only 10 minutes to Cruz Bay.

South Shore also located on Fish Bay, but way up on top on the hill, so probably 15 minutes from town.

Thanks everybody! I noticed another villa at seaviewhomes called Southern Cross. Does that one compare with the others? Just the name alone makes me want to stay there! I looked for Rendevous Villa, but it looks like it isn't available any more. I could look at the house, but it wouldn't give me prices, availablity, etc. Anyone know the story on that one?
La Jolla Carrib through destination St John has five bedrooms, two with queen beds, one with king. The other two with twin beds can be converted to kings. When I was there they had the upstairs room with twins made up into a king. The two slepping in it had no appreciation of a crack. The two rooms on the middle floor share a bath, however there is a fifth bathroom on the bottom floor with an outside entrance that can be used as that bedroom's bath. The kitchen is well equiped, there are two living areas so you can watch tv or movies in two different places. There's an outdoor shower, a hottub, both with great views. The house sits up on a hill with a great view of Peter bay, cinnamon bay and Francis bay. There's no pool however, we were there in July and spent everyday at a different beach so never felt the need for a pool.
