Tennis villa/Cottage
anyone have any recent reviews? I see one from 2005. anything since then or anyone have recent photos? Seeing my best friend and her family today (from Michigan) and will be working on her for a STJ trip. This set up would be ideal for us. Any thoughts?

It takes both the sun and the rain to make a beautiful rainbow. --Unknown
I have been meaning to do a review of Tennis Villa. 7 of us stayed there July 7-14. I will let this be a “mini-review” until I do a full one for the review portion of the site. I can only say we saw Tennis Cottage from our driveway, but didn’t check it out much. It is tucked back into the bushes and is very separate, but directly adjacent to Tennis Villa.
Location: Tennis Villa is located just above the Westin, on the peninsula that separates Chocolate Hole and Great Cruz Bay. The walk down to the Westin beach took only a few minutes. The walk back was more difficult as it was straight uphill. The house is just off the main road and access is a piece of cake. It is only a few minutes into town. We loved the convenience of this location.
Layout: 3 bedrooms (with baths), kitchen, living room/dining room in the main house; 1 bedroom (with bath) in the separate pod between the tennis court and pool.
Bedrooms: The 3 bedrooms in the main house were all relatively equal. I think 2 were twins pushed together to make kings. This was not a problem for anyone. The bathrooms were ok, nothing fancy. The AC would turn the bedrooms polar if you set it too low. The bedrooms were all separate enough for complete privacy. They were also surprisingly large. There was not a view from any of the bedrooms, nor did they open up to the outside. This did not turn out to be a concern at all.
Kitchen: Very large with lots of counter space. There were 2 refrigerators, one of which we dubbed the booze frig. The stove was huge with a griddle on the side. I am not a cook, but my impression is the kitchen was top of the line when it was put in… 10-15 years ago. Everything worked fine and there were plenty of plates, pots pans etc. I was perturbed that I couldn’t find a measuring cup though J. There were 3 sinks and there was also a wine frig. There was a stainless gas grill outside as well.
Living area: We loved this space when we were actually in the house. The pool table provided a diversion for the guys when the ladies were napping. We also had some great late night games on the pool table. The table has obviously seen better days though. There was a mismatch of balls and the felt was a bit worn. It served its purpose for us though. The dining table was also in this room. We ate out every night say we never really used it. The TV was ok – we watched very little TV anyway. There was a bose sound system, which sounded good. The living area could get a bit warm (not bad mind you). If I ever got too hot I just jumped in the pool and came back in. There are lots of sliding doors to offer some ventilation.
Grounds: The pool was very long and was in good condition. The vegetation was pretty, but a bit overgrown and a little neglected. I was up early one morning before everyone else and found myself pulling grass out of a flowerbed. We never used the tennis court. It looked to be in pretty good shape, but obviously doesn’t see much play. The vegetation could have been trimmed back to give better views, but on the plus side it gave great privacy. The views to both bays were great.
Overall impressions: This was obviously a great, top of the line house when it was first built. The amenities are great for keeping people occupied while not on the beach or in town. The location is perfect for convenience. The price is great for what you get. You can put a lot of people in this house very comfortably. It has seen better days, and is a bit worn around the edges, but all in all, everyone loved the house and what it had to offer. We quickly overlooked its flaws. We will probably stay there again in the future. I can’t see spending double the money to stay in one of the Virgin Grand Estates houses.
Let me know if you have any specific questions… I would definitely recommend this house.

Tennis Villa and Cottage
Just wanted to let you know that the Tennis COTTAGE also has a pool now-although it is small, about 8 by 12, and the cottage has a completely different, but very nice view than the main villa. The whole complex has really nice space--great for a casual family reunion with easy access to the Westin, the beaches, Starfish Market and of course the dreaded dumpster.
