Back to reality...and its sucks....

Post by njhdrider »

Well the five days in paradise have come to an end, we are back in NJ and the weather here sums up the mood. Dreary.... The entire trip was great....from the moment we left Newark airport on time and arrived early in San Juan, to our connecting flight leaving on time and getting to St Thomas with our luggage on time. We jumped into our Budget Rent a Jeep drove across St Thomas and arrived in Red Hook to catching the three oclock Ferry. The villa, Luminaria, was perfect, the views and the layout. While on St. John we dined at Skinny Legs, Caneel Bay (the lunch buffet, and Equator), JJ Toast, Donkey Diner, and Ocean Grill, and Stone Harbor. With one execption all the restaurants were excellent, and that one exception was more of a personality conflict with the waitress then the quality of the food. On the island the kids (sooner or later I will stop refering to our sixteen year olds as kids but not in this posting) got a kick out of driving around the island and having all the livestock right at arms reach. The traffic jams on St John are much better then the traffic jams here in NJ, its a pleasure to sit and wait for a herd of goats to move across the road then for a pack of maniacs trying to claim their piece of beach at the shore. All in all the trip was great, and the everyone wants to know when we are heading back, my son said he misses St John and could easily live there all the time, Linda wants to go back and do a restaurant tour, Leann missed her friends back in NJ but said thats ok, as long as she has text messages and her computer, and I miss it all. Next St John trip cant get here soon enough........

PS
I feel kind of guilty that our trip went so smooth after reading the horror stories posted here and elsewhere. (Not very guilty though.....LOL)

Ditto, just back also and the weather matches my mood. Don't feel bad about having a smooth trip... we didn't have such a smooth one, but as the guy in the smoothie stand says.. "Even a bad day on St. John doesn't suck"

And... 28 days till wheels down Part II

njhdrider - unpleasant weather today for sure "welcoming" you back, but we had as fine a 6 hr beach day as you can have in NJ yesterday in Spring Lake. Sunny, low 80s, low humidity, slight breeze, bagels and Sunday paper on the beach, long boardwalk for power walk, clean "10 toe" water (can see your toes in 6 ft of water), and very entertaining 4 and 5 ft waves for great boogie boarding. Not St. John, but not bad either.

Sailor Girl.... I had to feel somewhat bad about a perfect a trip, I believe that if I was bragging someone would jinx my next trip and we cant have that....and Mr. Smoothie is right...while we were there St John lost power for about four of five hours during the evening...the villa didnt have a generator but we still had a good time....took a ride around the island to kill time....and the kids entertained themselves while the tv,pool and hot tube were powerless.....

JMQ...glad you enjoyed your day yesterday is scenic Spring Lake...I was driving down to Rehoboth Beach Deleware to pick the dog up at my parents and decided to drive home later in the evening...I know I am nuts sunday on the Parkway...but was listening to the weather report and would rather have driven back last night then in the rain today.....besides I know the back roads off the parkway......

MBW....thanks for the welcome home...and as far as this state goes...it use to be a great place...now...well will just leave it up to your imagination.

Reality bites I know. Glad to hear of your good times. My kids are 19 and (10 in 3 weeks). As you can see, they are still my kids. Even my oldest. Now if she would just listen as we are discussing her tattooed rocker boyfriend when I am explaining that she is still my kid...pray for me!

Welcome home!
(It does really stink to come home sometimes, doesn't it?)
