any ideas for hangover cures?????????

Post by cypressgirl »

Besides a Bloody Mary?? I know, I know, everything in moderation, but sometimes we humans fail to always live by the rules. Just IN CASE one of the 4 of us may need a little help in the morning,(not me, of course) does anyone have any ideas?

I usually find a greasy cheeseburger helps a little, but I was looking for something a little less fattening. Woops, I think I just admitted to something.

Coke in a glass bottle. Take the cap off, place in freezer until it's full of little ice chips. Take with drugs and 3 Hershey Kisses. It works, I promise!

You are too funny....I always try to prepare "ahead" of time. Sounds crazy, but I always eat bread before I start to drink (coat that stomach), and automatically take 4 aspirin/bufferin, etc right before I fall into, or over, the bed....I usually get in trouble when I start with beer and then switch, or is it the other way around?? 8)

Hey CG! Make sure your bedroom curtains are closed all the way before you go to bed. Take 2 advil. Keep a can of diet ginger ale by your bed (open) and sip on it whenever you wake up during the night. Sleep in as late as possible! I like the cheeseburger routine too, but its not on my current diet so I just take in liquids until Im up to eating healthy food.
I never had a hangover on STJ...I didnt have time! 8)

I've heard that "Chaser" stuff really works. You can find it near the motion sickeness medication in drugstores.

All a hangover really is, is dehydration (sp?). This is what you need to do...and it works!!

If you do end up drinking a bit too much, you need to hydrate. Try drinking at least 3 large glasses of water before going to bed. It'll be hard, but force it down. Yes, you'll be up to pee a few times, but this cures the hangover almost every time!!

Good Luck.

ScottB is right, but I KNOW what would happen to me if I tried to put down all that water......it's happened before and it's definitely not pleasant.

I haven't found it yet - if you do, let me know! I haven't had one in while, mainly because when I do have a hangover, it's so bad that it "teaches me a lesson" for a long time. I'm a weenie.

ScottB is right about the water. The other thing that causes the pain is that your brain actually swells a bit. Take an anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofin.

Or, alternatively, just jump right back on the train and push the pain off until another time.

Dare I say it - hair of the dog! This is a remedy I only use on vacation, but it really does work.

So many ideas and so little time to test them out.

I have tried drinking a glass of water between each drink, but that gets to be a LOT of liquid if the party lasts very long.

I've never tried that "chaser" stuff. I wonder what's in it. And is it Advil or Bayer?? The swelling head theory sure makes sense. That's how it feels in the morning...a big swollen head.

The "hair of the dog" I try to leave alone (unless it's so bad that's all one can do).

My favorite: Fill a cooler full of beer and head to the beach with a bag of BBQ potato chips. Eat the chips until you need to drink a beer to relieve the salt-induced thirst. By the time the chips are gone so is your hangover.

Something that I've noticed on STJ is that the bottled water and the villa water we get is very low in minerals. A multivitamin with minerals helps an awful lot, even if you are not hung over. My buddy Ralph worked at Maho Campground and the staff all ate salt pills.

Cheers, RickG

   A cooler of beer and a bag of BBQ potato chips on a STJ beach sounds like a great way to start the day, even if you're not hung.

 I LOVE this thread!!

Okay, I'm all about making sure the curtains are closed tight before going to bed (don't forget to pack a couple of clothes pins) and make sure the bedroom is COLD and I would opt for regular ginger ale by my bedside, opened and ready to go, and the advil before bedtime.

Come morning, grab your shades and pack your cooler, grab your chips, and go find a nice beach to die on. Maybe trunk for the day because they'll have the greasy hamburger!!

I love a girl who plans ahead!!! :P
