Best bar for these drinks....

Post by jdw »

When we visit St. John in November I am going to drink my FIRST ever Bushwacker, Painkiller, Limin Coconut and BBC. I understand that Banana Deck has the best BBC....where should we go to find the best of the other three????

Also, we will be placing an order with Mixology before we arrive. We want to make a few different frozen concoctions (using Cruzan rum of course)....can you recommend any good drink mixers that they offer?

IMHO, Woody's has the best Lime & Coconut. We actually did an experiment one year sampling them from all the bars on STJ, and Duffy's won(too bad Duffy's isn't still around!), but Woody's was a close second!

I had my first of three of those drinks on my most recent trip.

Best Limin Coconut was at Banana Deck.

Best Painkiller was at Soggy Dollar Bar on White Bay. Hands down. No contest.

Best Bushwacker was at the beach bar at the Westin. We did not stay there, just went to the beach bar there a few times. In fact, the 2nd time we went it was just to get a Bushwacker, which was so good the first time. Worst Bushwacker was at the Westin on that 2nd trip.

Unfortunately, I think the bartender has more to do with how good or bad a drink is than the bar itself does.

BTW, the worst painkiller I had was at the Best Western Carib Beach on our last night. The hotel wasn't bad at all, but I didn't even finish the drink.

Hands down the Beach Bar for Bushwackers. Dunno about the rest of the drinks.

The Lime in da coconut at the Banana Deck was great.
I liked the Bushwacker at Woody's but I never had one at the Beach Bar. If you want a lot of alcohol in a drink (151 rum) try the Ocean Runner at High Tide or the Rum punch at Joe's Rum Hut.

Another vote for the Banana Deck for a BBC. I wasn't going to drink at all the day we were there and then I tasted someone else's BBC. Oh my was it good!

I gotta agree, Joe, I had a really killer Painkiller at Foxy's.....made by one of his sons that was tending the bar that day! I'd put that one up against the Soggy Dollar any day!

The Beach Bar makes GREAT Limin Coconuts and Bushwhackers!

Don't you just love to talk about alchol at 8:00 in the morning. It makes me want to mix up a batch.

I do love any drink on the patio at Caneel. It's just so darn pretty there, but the last one I had cost 9.50 (plus tip) ouch! Plus, I've got to have at least 3 to make it worth the effort.
