Virgin Gorda cruise stop???

Post by mbw1024 »

I got an email this week about the 2008/2009 Caribbean sailings from Princess. I see a sailing that has a stop in Virgin Gorda. This is not a small ship. Anyone know what that is all about? Have cruise ships been stopping in VG previously?

I'm not sure but most of these big ships would "park" offshore and just tender the passengers in.

In fact, it sometimes happens off of STJ. They then continue on to STT and the passengers take the ferry back.

Yes, there is a couple of ships that make VG their stop. They do tender the folks into SpanishTown and from there they head to the Baths and/or tour the island in open-air jitneys just like when a large ship anchors off STJ. In fact I did see one large one off SpanishTown the day I left VG and people were returning to it from the yacht harbour.

A little late to this thread, but we took the Norweigen Dream in January of 2000 and we docked at the dock in Spanish Town. I've seen other ships have to tender people in though.

I took this photo last November while staying in a villa overlooking the North Sound of VG. The ship stayed moored in the sound near the Bitter End for the better part of an entire day.

Any idea what ship it is? Or what cruise line?

That's one of SeaDream Yacht Clubs ships (either SeaDream 1 or SeaDream 2).

We have sailed on both of them in the Caribbean ... they carry less than 100 passengers. It is an incredible ... more like yachting than cruising!
