Trip Report STJ Days 3 and 4

We were up very early. The kids woke up at about 6:30 on their own! We went to Trunk very early and were the 1st ones there. I tried to copy CA Girl's picture but it is not as good. (Oh well, I'll have to try again next time).

Image

We snorkeled starting on the left side and swam around the whole cay. Michael is not a strong swimmer but he made it. I bought him an aqua jogger and it worked great.
We saw a lot of fish and coral and it was a lot better than I had remembered. We saw Charlie the barracuda (he is very big and I didn't get close enough for a good picture and you can imagine why).
I hope you can kind of see him.

Isn't this crab cool?
Image

We swam along the left side again and back because the right side wasn't as good. Then when more people showed up we went over to the very right side of the beach and saw a lot there too.

Image

Then we went on a walk along Trunk Bay beach and ran into IA Joe and his wife. ( I asked him where his pitchfork was.)

Then we swam some.

Next we went to Caneel. Jim remembered it as being good. The snorkeling wasn't as good as the other places, but we did see this shark. It really was small but Mary stuck my camera down in the water and snapped a close up picture. (If my daughter can get her hand that close to the shark, you can swim with them Cypressgirl !)

We then headed back to the villa to get ready to go to town and meet up with the forum gang.
We went to town and went to a few shops and went to STJ Spice and saw Ruth. She was very nice and she was trying to let me know the times of high and low tide because I was planning on writing my message on Monday morning. She gave me a forum huggie/koozie for being one of the top 10 posters. We bought a few things and she said she would see us at the Banana Deck when Ron got back.

We looked at the baby shark again and went to the Banana Deck and met IA Joe, his wife (I think Carrie- I am sorry I am bad with names sometimes), Ron from South Texas and his wife, sister and her husband, Caribert and his wife and friends. Ron's sister had bought a beautiful ring! Ruth came a little later. Pia never showed up. :(
I had a lime in da coconut and it was VERY good. The kids had non-alcoholic daiquiris. It was great to meet everyone and I wish we could have stayed longer after Ruth showed up, but the kids were bored and hungry.

We tried to go to Woody's (the kids wanted to go there). I had promised Betty that I would compare the Woody's burger to the Skinny Leg's burger. It was so crowded that we couldn't get waited on. We ended up having pizza at Ronnie's. We had the vegetarian pizza and it was delicious. I had a rum punch from Joe's Rum hut and it kicked my "you know what"! I think it had 151 rum in it!

We walked home, stopped by Gallows on the way to view the sunset. We left before it was fully set and my family turned to go to the villa and I was headed to Frank Bay to see the finish of the sunset. I heard someone yell "Sea-Nile!" and it was Ruth walking home. She showed me where Frank Bay was and how to get home. That was the "happiest" (i.e. 151 rum) I got that week and I hope I didn't leave a bad impression on Ruth. (I told her that we would be back in her store so we would see her again. We went there 2 more times but she or Ron were never there. I am sure I will see her in November).
The sunset was pretty much over and not that great so I didn't take pictures and I did find my way home.

The kid's and I went in the hot tub.

Bed at 9 pm.

Day 4

Today was our BVI trip on Limnos. We were to meet them at the National Park Ferry at 8:30 so we headed out to walk there at about 8 am.
We stopped so I could write "Hi SOTB" for the web cam, but I guess no one saw it.

Limnos picked us up and we headed out. There were no other kids on the boat, which surprised me. We stopped at Tortola for a minute and then headed to Virgin Gorda to the Baths. It was a great time and Jim liked it better than he thought he would.

We then went to Normand Island for snorkeling. It was good but there were a lot of boats there. The snorkeling wasn't any better than we had seen so far but it was kind of neat going into the caves. We saw a turtle. We were the first off the boat and almost the last back on.
Image
Their friend Norman the barracuda was hanging under the boat. I had my mask already off when I found out about him so I just stuck the camera down under the boat and snapped a shot and he did end up in the picture.

Image
On the ride home the kids got to drive.

Then we drove all along STJ, which was neat. We got to see all of the North shore beaches from the water. I took pictures of all of them but they are pretty far away.

Customs was quick and we walked home. We saw Lindy and he had a shirt on that said "It is hard to show I care, because I don't" The kids wanted me to give him my forum shirt so he could wear it. Maybe I will let another forum member do that.

We swam in the pool when we got home and then we grilled pork chops. They were a good deal in STJ, about the same price at home. (I hope that's not why we didn't see that pig on a leash!)

We walked into town where Michael bought a hand carved stone turtle (he had already bought a lot with his money. He is quite the bargain hunter). We went to High Tide where there was a band playing Jimmy Buffett and we danced.

Jim's going to kill me if he sees this picture! :D

Back home and Mary and I danced to Bob Marley and went to bed early again.

Tomorrow: Waterlemon and Coral Bay and Salt Pond
Wednesday: Back to Maho and Hawksnest.

What a great time you guys are having. I can't get over how "at home" you look. Maybe it's the tan, but you just look awesome. Your family is so precious and I'm glad to hear you have all had a great time.

Your right......If Mary can swim with sharks, so can I. I'll be brave....with enough alchol. I may drown from the booze while the sharks get a big laugh.

Sorry....please forgive me

Hubby and I had planned to be there and spent most of that afternoon pulling weeds, digging up a huge century plant and watering our other plants so we decided to go to Maho for a quick cool off before returning home to clean up and go to the get together....well we all know what can happen when you go for a "quick" anything on STJ :) No, seriously we are in the very, very beginning stages of working on our house extension and remodel and we met (by chance) a contractor while we were drinking a beer while standing in the water and got to talking roof prices etc and before we knew it it was 6pm  and the forum get together was over we assumed

It was really a shame as I had been saying all week - "don't let's forget the Banana Deck on Sunday" so next time - and yes we hope to be there this Sunday (unless we find a tile man )

Great report and pictures again. It's such a lovely start of the day, to look at all trip reports and pictures.

I'm totally convinced that you have managed to get your family as hooked on STJ as you are. You just have to look on their happy faces. For instance the photo of your daughter driving the boat.

Wonderful reports! May I ask what kind of camera you're using for the underwater shots, they're great!

I wonder if "Norman" was the same freakin' barracuda that was hanging out by OUR ladder when we were snorkeling near Norman Island. I definitely had a name for him....but it wasn't "Norman"...... :D

Thanks everyone for your nice comments!

CadinalSyn- I think she said her ears are a gauge 6.
She got a lot of comments about them in STJ.

GaryLC-
camera is a Canon SD600 with the underwater housing. I am really happy with it.

Vicki H-
I think Norman was a little bigger. We saw a lot of barracuda!

Another great installment! That shark picture is really terrific.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
