Honeymoon at Oyster Bay Resort, St. Martin?

Post by ktags21 »

Good Morning. I was wondering if anyone has stayed at Oyster Bay Beach Resort in St. Martin or has heard anything about it? I'm looking for a great place for our honeymoon and my fiance's cousin offered for us to use their time share in St. Martin. We've been to St. John once and absolutely loved it. We stayed in a private villa and loved the laid back feeling of the island. We want to have a fabulous honeymoon but aren't sure if a free stay at Oyster Bay Resort will be worth it. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

ktags, my wife and I stayed at a villa in Oyster Bay five years ago, and we drove through the Beach Resort. Can't tell you anything about the rooms, though I understand they're quite nice. There are some that face a garden and some that face the sea; obviously, don't settle for the former. There's a beautiful large infinity pool right by the water. You can walk to Dawn Beach, one of the St. Maarten's most beautiful, and there's a great little beach bar there. Unfortunately, Westin has just put up a huge property on Dawn Beach, which apparently doesn't blend with the island at all - some say it looks like a big concrete prison. That's emblematic of the uncontrolled growth that the governments of St. Maarten/St. Martin are allowing, and why people on this forum are so vigilant about preventing it on STJ.

My family stayed at Oyster Bay in October of 2002. I thought it was very nice but it may have changed significantly since then. At the time it was definitely on the quieter side of the island. Dawn beach is gorgeous and the unit we stayed in was very nice. There were a couple of beach front restaurants. One with REALLY good grilled caribbean lobster. Another shacky type bar place that was like Skinny Legs only nicer (as far as view). PM me and I'll send you a link to some photos.

From Oyster Bay Resort, can you really explore the island or is it a stay in one genreal area type of place?

You can definitely explore (with a car of course). I don't think I would stay there if I didn't have a rental car.

Definitely hit Pinel island if you go awesome little island just a 5 minute ferry ride away some good snorkeling too. Try Orient beach for the day gorgeous beach as long as you don't mind some nudys.Lots of cool little beach bars and the beach is huge.
