Trip Report - Day One
Trip Report - Day One
Trip Report June 6, 2007 thru June 15, 2007
One of the main reasons you stay on Island for ten days, is the travel days you lose getting there and back. Our first day was a travel day. From DFW at 6:15am to MIA and we all know how everyone feels about the Miami Airport, was uneventful. We were delayed an hour getting out of Miami (rainstorms closed the ramp several times), so we got to STT an hour later than was planned.

Approaching St. Thomas

First Carib!
We arranged for Basil (Taxi) to pick us up at the airport, which he did very well in spite of our late arrival, he then called Lisa from Vacation Vistas and told her which ferry we were catching. The CA ferry was still not running.

Basil Taxi (Me and my sister)
Got to Red Hook with mere moments to spare, I think they held the ferry while we and our 12 pieces of luggage got on, much to the chagrin of the folks already on it...and we were off!!

Cruz Bay

Ferry Dock
Lisa met us at the St. John ferry dock (great sight when you first get there), loaded all of our luggage in her car, and we walked over to pick up the car. We got a red Dodge Durango, brand new (it had a couple of dings on the bumpers and a cracked windshield), but big enough for 6 people and snorkel stuff.

Walk to Rental Cool Breeze
Lisa took us to Calypso del Sol on Chocolate Hole and we had FINALLY arrived! And that was day one. I will write a review of the villa and post it on the review page. Short and sweet: 3 bedrooms 3 baths all pretty equal, swimming pool, hot tub, nicely appointed, well kept, air conditioning through out, all in all very nice, and yes, I would rent it again.

Our view from Calypso.
We ordered some booze from Mixology, and there was a mix up so they could not deliver our beer and booze until after we got there. But, within 30 minutes, we were sucking down a cold Carib by the pool enjoying the sunset! Mixology came through anyway!

Really like the "documentary" picture format. The picture of the arrival in St. John brings it all back - I want to be there so badly! Thanks for the entertainment on this hot Cincinnati morning

Hi Bert, you are on the ball with the trip report. I've been back almost 2 weeks and still have not posted my report. Been swamped at work & home. I'll eventually get around to it. (it is almost depressing to write it since I'm not there anymore) So far sounds like you had a great trip. Can't wait to hear more & see more pics. Glad you enjoyed Calypso del Sol - it was sad when we had to leave her, but I knew we were leaving her in your good hands.

I use two basic cameras. My main one, Canon SD500, and Barb's Olympus Stylus 800. I took the Olpmpus 770, but it malfunctioned, so I am off to the camera store with it first thing next week.cypressgirl wrote:Love the picture from the plane!! Again, since I'm still in camera shopping mode, what kind do you use? If you had a shark encounter, please tell me it was on your dinner plate.
My encounter with a shark was at the Beach bar. I was on the beach and the little fellow was in about 2 feet of water right off the beach. was no big deal. This was the only picture I got of it.
