Uncle Joe's vs. The new place

Post by Tracy in WI »

Hi everyone -

We're leaving shortly for STJ and with the kids in tow, we always like casual food. Last year, we ate Uncle Joe's on the dinghy dock in Cruz Bay!

I know there is that new BBQ place but I can't remember the name so I am wondering if we should head there instead this time? Do any of you have an opinion on which is better? I know Uncle Joe's isn't as good as it used to be.

Thanks for any input.

Candi's Delights is the new BBQ place. I'm not a big BBQ fan, but my husband LOVED it! He raved and raved about it...said it was the damn best ribs he's ever had! We had to have a repeat trip there before we left too.

New Place

Yeah Reggie is cooking at a place near the supermarket, or he was in January anyway. I guess that's the place you're talking about. I'll see him for some of those ribs in about 16 days. Can't wait.

Tracy,

Marcia and I carried out from there this past May. We both thought that it blew Joe's away. It's not much for decor, but it is a great carry-out option.

As you come from Cruz Bay towards Starfish, it is on the left before you reach Starfish...right across from that funky triangle intersection.

And, get this...we got our food in less than ten minutes after placing our order. 'Scuse me...but Joe's takes about 5 times as long.

What Cindi said earlier about Candi's...yeah, those ribs were AWESOME! I have had bbq all over the world and Candi's ribs were some of the best I have ever had, if not the VERY best! I know a picture doesn't taste very good but this one gets me drooling all over again:

Looks yummy.

I know someone mentioned the location before, but I can't recall... Can you remind us where Candi's is located?

Thanks!

BBQ

Candi's is fabulous! Not much to look at and a possible "turn off" for most but everynight there was a crowd so we figured it must be good. And it was one of the best BBQ's we've ever had! It's just before you get to Starfish Market on the left side of the road.

Enjoy!

Candy's sells beer.

We hung out at the tables and drank while waiting for our food in Feb.

We thought the chicken and fish were rather good as were the side dishes. The ribs much better the second day after I baked them in the oven for some time.

Rum Punch! I love rum punch from the little places, so much better than the mix varieties.

I will say Candy's Heinkens were so cold, they were nearly slushy, in a good way. This reason alone have earned Candy's top billing from hubs. We stopped JUST for beer more than once when travelling to the beaches.

I agree Suzi, which is why we ended up there multiple times during our last trip. It was just fun and relaxing to sit down and chat with different people. Because of our line of work, my hubs likes to talk shop with the construction people about building methods on-island.

That's the intersection where everybody is ignoring the stop sign these days...in the past, people have usually done rolling stops through it, but right now drivers are completely ignoring it...my husband tried to respect the stop sign and still stop even though nobody else was, but there were a couple times we would have been rear-ended (hard) by taxis behind us had he stopped.

So be careful at that intersection folks :)
