Another passport question... UGH
With apologies, but I don't think this has been raised before. Are passports required for minor children traveling with one parent who shares joint custody with the other. The State Departmnent site is unclear... to me at least. Has anyone dealt with this before.
Do you need some sort of written consent from the other parent?
Thanks

I was in the same boat since me and my ex have joint custody. You can either a) have your ex go with you to a passport office to apply in person or b) fill out a notarized consent form that is available on-line. Link below:

If you apply in person, be sure to check their hours. It is usually M-F 9-4.
Truly, a pain in the keyster for divorced parents to get their kids a passport!

Actually, the minor is the child a friend who now may need to bring him along for what was to be our "Girls week on St. John" in august. No problem, we love him and are happy to have him along. He already has a passport, which is in his father's possession. Doesn't look like Dad wants to give it up to my friend. It has been a long and ugly battle. Dad is pissed that my friend is going to St. John with us and refuses to both take the child for the week or allow him to go with Mom, talk about a control freak.
But I digress.. soory he just makes me so mad. So it sounds like in any event a minor needs a passport to go to St. John, unlike an adult, but if he has a passport, no other consent form is needed?
