Lime in De Coconut?
Lime in De Coconut?
Well unfortunately our (my husband and myself) beloved villa Wings Over Water is unavailable for next fall due to the fact the owners will be there, so that is making my villa search for next year very difficult to top. I did come across this villa Lime in De Coconut and spoke to the owner about it and he offered a very good deal for the 3 bedrooms, but the lower one can be rented out separately at the same time, but the owner did say that they would not be seen, besides sharing the driveway and the beach. The place does look intriguing and the accessibility to the water is really tempting.... anyone have any experience or known of anyone who has stayed here?

I am also going back and forth with Bongo Bongo, (but would rather be closer to the water but it does look wonderful), Palm Hill, Balance Villa, South Shore Villa and Palm Vista....
Budget is no more then $4500 for a week.... during low season
Any comments/suggestions welcome!
Thank you,
Susan

Re: Lime in De Coconut?
In early May of 2012 (I double checked and found my email) I inquired through VRBO about renting the 1 bedroom suite and nobody responded. In 11 years of renting on STJ, I have never had that happen, so needless to say, it made me wonder if something was shady about the listing. One of the things I had inquired about was the fact that there were two VRBO listings that shared some of the exact same pictures but there was no explanation as to why; there is an explanation now, however.
There is a separate VRBO listing for the 1 bedroom suite, and back then I'm pretty sure the 1 bedroom listing also included pictures of the pool, but that's not the case anymore...so perhaps back then they were figuring out how to manage everything?
Hopefully someone who has stayed there can chime in on this.

Hi Susan, the only villa I know out of your choices is Bongo Bongo.Thats where I used to go when I' was on "vacation". Really exceptional place. Fantastic views, especially sunsets. Huge beautiful pool, privacy. All in all the perfect villa. In fact, I am looking right at it now, from my own patio. The owners are good friends, but believe me it's a great house.

It looks really nice! I love the proximity to the water and the decor. We stayed at Balance in 2008. We liked it but it is not as upscale. Also, the outdoor shower is exposed from the waist up which made me nervous to use it! It is pretty far from town too if you like to eat out.

Hi Susan...You enticed me into looking at Lime in De Coconut
But....saw where the info said
"No one under 21" ....
That's out ! We will have our 12 year old twin grandkids with us and their parents. If it had been just Hubby and Me...we were going to go for Bongo Bongo...don't think anyone could go wrong there. We stayed at a house next to it a few years back and the views are amazing !!
Good Luck !!!

Re: Lime in De Coconut?
We stayed at Lime in de Coconut in June. It was excellent. Paul, the owner, is a great host. We enjoyed all the toys he has at the beach--kayaks, paddle boards and played there each morning. There was also great snorkeling from his beach. And we had one of the best days on his boat with Captain Ocean. And we've been on many boat excursions on St. John. The downstairs was not rented when we were there. So we played music to our hearts' content and had a great old time. I posted a review on VRBO--I believe all the reviews there are excellent.
Re: Lime in De Coconut?
Going back to Bongo Bongo, I have heard conflicting reports of it being all open so there can be problems with mosquitos/bugs especially at night? Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks again,
Susan

Re: Lime in De Coconut?
Susan,
My wife and I have stayed at Bongo Bongo twice. June '09 and June '13. Great location and very easy/quick access to Cruz Bay. The views are great and the pool and deck really make the villa. Each part of the house is a pod, so if you open it all up without using the screen sliders, and the mosquitoes are bad then you will definitely have them inside. Sunsets are awesome, but the living area and kitchen do get warm during the late afternoon so it's a trade off. It's not quite as nice as it was in 2009, BUT is very well kept and still a very nice villa. The owners are good people that promote STJ and its businesses.
If you have any questions at all please feel free to send me a PM. We will be at Wings over Water this next June.
