road to the Lameshurs and rental car limitations
road to the Lameshurs and rental car limitations
Determined to visit Kiddel, Grootpan and the Lameshurs this trip , however rental car contract states no driving on unpaved roads. Do all rental car companies stipulate this and if so , how do you get there? Is the dirt road in the same condition as the drive to lower francis bay parking lot (big ditches and small boulders) ? Have wanted to snorkel Yawzi since first trip but I don't want to damage a rental.

If you rent a jeep, use four wheel drive and take it slow, you will be fine. The road to Lameshur has been somewhat improved in recent years. All of the steep switchbacks are concrete now. There are still lots of ruts and rocks, and the unpaved part is rough. I would say slightly rougher than the road to Francis. In my opinion the roughest part of the road is the beginning and over the first hill.
The road to Kiddle/Grootpan is not as rough as Lameshur, but it is still unpaved and filled with rocks. I just don't remember as many ruts. Again, take it slow and use four wheel drive and you won't have any problems.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

just looked at my courtesy rental agreement (again) no mention of staying on paved roads.
Drove that road last week, take it slow. It had some major "potholes" from the recent rains, but certainly not something that should cause damage to a vehicle if properly driven.

Thank you for the info, I rented through L&L because we had such a good experience with them but they do have a stipulation that their vehicles remain on paved roads with the exception of your villa access. I'm thinking of trying to go by charter boat out of Coral Bay but will talk to L&L about their specific policy.

We rent from L&L and I have asked Levi this question. He told me it was alright to drive to Little Lamshur. It has been a few years since I asked so I suggest that you call and ask or ask when picking the jeep up.
