working in the VI's
working in the VI's
I guess this question is probably geared more towards forumites living on Island but....would like input from all.
If you had a son or son-in-law that was very seriously considering being a Police Officer on one of the Virgin Islands....what would be your major thoughts or concerns ? Please be very honest and open...I figure my daughter will probably read this as well . Thanks guys!

100% honesty
I have very little faith in the VI police dept so I am not sure that someone from the states would fit in very well. Unless of course, he is lazy.
Just my opinion

I think if he is a professional law enforcement officer he would be welcomed -- the problem would probably be more in his adjustment to a very different culture - I do not find the police department lazy - and my experiences have been mostly very positive in almost 40 years of my USVI living.
Re: working in the VI's
Here is a quote from a Daily News article about the resignation of Police Commissioner White. If I find the full article I'll post it. Commissioner Henry White, Jr. was from the states and came to the VI with an excellent background in law enforcement.
"White announced he was leaving the commissioner post Jan. 15 after only a year, citing an obstructive culture of "nepotism, favoritism and politicism" within the department. "
As the previous posters indicated. It may be difficult to adjust to the culture.

Come on down and give it a try. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise. I wouldn't count on it, though.
