STJ Burger War

Post by MN_Bhoy »

We are on Day 5 of our trip and today we took a suggestion from someone we met on the beach last night. She told us if we were looking for a good place we should give Driftwood David's a shot. Well, after a "rough"day at Cinnamon, we decided to stop at DD's.

Bottom line - that was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. I had mine with bleu cheese, grilled jalapeños, tomato, and a local hot sauce that the waitress said was unavailable in retail (too bad! ). For me the bar has been set!

Tomorrow my wife and I (hopefully along with EagleRayLover) might give Skinny Legs a crack at the title. They have their work cut out for them!

I really hate to say this, but, Skinny Legs wasn't that great the last couple of trips. Love the ambience though...

MB: Driftwood Dave's is across the street from Hercules', as you begin to head up the hill from Uncle Joe's BBQ and Cool Breeze car rentals towards the roundabout.

All the best,

I know this'll sound crazy, but when we were there last year, we had one of the BEST burgers at the Iguana, where the bank used to be, methinks. My Sig. Other, Sylvia, even had a burger there and loved it, and she rarely eats a burger when we're out.

I'm just sayin........

MN ---- I do believe it sounds like you may have to add days to your trip to try all these places.

Sounds like you may have to have a few more 'rough' days at the beaches before you hit all the burger joints.

This afternoon Skinny Legs got the title shot it deserves. In attendance were my wife and EagleRayLover.

To keep things fair I ordered the same burger toppings as I had at DD's - bleu cheese, jalapeños, little mayo and hot sauce.

Skinny Legs pros:
1) great place with lots of character although we could do without all the Red Sox stuff! :-)
2) the friendly waitress asked me how I want the burger cooked! Big plus here- it's been a while since a burger joint allowed me to order medium rare! And it was cooked perfectly
3) big burger too!
4) great selection of hot sauces!!
5) really good mango rum special!!!

Cons:
1) canned jalapeños. :(

Verdict: I really enjoyed Skinny Legs' burger. Rumors that they have lost a step are way off base. That said, I think Driftwood David's retains the title in a very close decision. Their overall taste is still tops for me.

Next up: Joe's Rum Hut's classic cheeseburger. We went their for a quick bite/drink tonight but there was no way I could enjoy another big burger!

Many thanks to EagleRayLover for a great afternoon in the Coral Bay Area. My wife and I had a blast!!!

And you're right mnfun2bme - we need a few more days for rough beach days and taste testing!! Donations are welcome - and so is a new job if I'm not back in the office on Monday! ;-)

Reasons people should donate to the BURGER WAR taste tester:

1. You own stock in Pfizer and with a solid month of testing, you'll likely have another Lipitor patient.

2. You're very fond of Chickens.

3. Perhaps someday you are setting your sights on being a "pain-killer" taste tester and you are thinking, "hey, what goes around comes around."

4. Maybe you're thinking of applying for the job MN Bhoy will lose if he's not at work on Monday.

WHO CAN ADD TO THIS LIST? I SPENT THE NIGHT LAST NIGHT WITH MY DAUGHTER AND HER DOG IN THE ANIMAL ER SO MY BRAIN IS SHOT.

You want to know where the best burger is, but you are too lazy to carry out your own war.

I know I'm gonna raise the ire of a lot of folks on this board, but the last 2 years I went to Skinny's, the burgers were much smaller and not so amazing. We've been sampling them yearly for at least 7 years. And we're still loyal Skinny customers, we'll hit them again for a burger in August. But the last 2 I had were certainly nothing like the ones I had, say, 4 or 5 years ago. I wrote it off at the time to the general slide toward sameness that permeates life today.

I must admit I go to Skinny's for the novelty. We always stay in Cruz Bay area and my wife acts as though I've been dragging her there for 25 years. I do like the burgers, locals and Coral Bay neighborhood. If Doug started to serve "high tide fries", my life would be a lot easier
