Questions about Carnival

Post by TraumaQueen »

We've decided we'll be on island during Carnival 2014 (YAY!). I have a couple of questions.......

1. Will there be an issue with ferry service to Virgin Gorda on the 5th or do things pretty much run *as usual* once Carnival is over? I really want to go to VG this trip and will either have to do it on the 5th or the 2nd (after arriving on the 1st). We'll be staying until the 12th and once we go to our villa I don't want to have to worry with parking to catch the ferry. Which do y'all recommend?

2. What time are the fireworks on the 4th? We want to experience Jouvert (if it happens) and it seems like it makes for a looooong day. That's the reason we'll be renting a condo for the first portion of our stay.

Thanks to everyone who posts here! You are a wealth of information!

I just recently returned from St. John about 3 weeks ago & experienced Carnival for the first time. The fireworks start at 9pm on the 4th. J'ouvert starts at approximately 4am, I would have liked to experience this but was not able to stay up! I stayed in Grande Bay & was able to hear the music all night long! I did get up at 5am but could not see anything from my balcony. I had a blast at Carnival & all the festivities, just need to go with the right person next time!!.

Everything is back to normal & business as usual on the 5th. :D

Thank you so much! Maybe we'll see you next year....we are probably the right people to experience Carnival with. Been going to Mardi Gras in NOLA for years and can pace myself quite well:mrgreen:.

You won't have any Trouble with the ferry for the fifth. It is a long day. I went down at 7 am to see all the prep for the parade. There were some Jouvert stragglers still out and about at 7:00am. I would recommend a nice dinner in between parade and fireworks. We went to Rhumblines and it broke up the day a little bit! We also lucked out as we had front row seats in quiet mom for the parade! Fun fun day!!
