Class of 2013 - Day 5 - Cinammon, a Bomb?? and Sun Dog

Day 4 – Cinammon Bay, a Bomb! And Sun Dog Café

Today we are heading to Cinammon Bay, where we enjoyed a day in the water, although the current/wind was pretty strong and there wasn’t a lot of snorkeling going on.

The first car heads to town where we are going to meet up for happy hour at the Beach Bar. We are waiting by Sliman’s for the second car and instead we see an open air cab go by with a few of the kids in it. Well, this can’t be good! My friend Tom was driving the other jeep so I figured he got a flat or something. Boy was I wrong! When the second group got to their car (which was in a different lot from ours) the National Park police had the area roped off and there was a stick with a rag in the gas tank, a battery and wire on the ground and “Pig Bacon” written in the dirt on the back of the windshield. This is absolutely the most bizarre thing that has ever happened to me on this island. The National Park police were very quick, responsive and there was a witness who saw a man tampering with the jeep and he gave them a statement. When I arrived, they were dusting the jeep for fingerprints! The police told me when I asked that the person was in custody and it was just a crazy random act and that we should just enjoy the rest of our vacation. I absolutely believe this was just a crazy person and does NOT indicate any safety issue on the island. I don’t believe the “bomb” would have ever worked and Pig Bacon became our team cry for the rest of the trip :P

We all head to the Beach Bar for post-trauma cocktail or two and make sure no one is freaking out (and they weren’t – really a great bunch of “Rotten Kids”).

We headed back to the house to clean up and then headed into town to the Sun Dog Café for the Wednesday Night Jam. We had a great lower level section to ourselves and really enjoyed our dinner here. We heard some great local musicians jamming and I just love the look of Mongoose Junction. Our waiter John and the bartender (whose name I sadly can’t remember) send us over a round of shots and everyone there was really friendly. We decided to forego an additional stop since tomorrow is boat day.

Again, I want to reiterate that we were more puzzled than terrorized by the incident at Cinammon and I was very impressed with the kindness and professionalism of the National Park police.

So sorry to hear this - what day was this? There was a report of a crazy person at Annaberg on May 21 or maybe May 22 who pulled the NP signs out of the ground along with the stop sign, layed them across the road, was yelling at visitors to go away as they did not belong here then proceeded to lay huge rocks and tree trunks across the road at the Leinster Bay Trail - sounds like the same crazy guy

Pia,

It was Wednesday. I think it probably was the same person; the National Park police mentioned that the person had been "doing things around the island" and because there was a witness and fingerprints, they caught him.

Glad it was in the Park, if it had been regular VI police, your car would probably still be where it was vandalized. You sure have the right "island" attitude and a great story to tell!

Wow, what a bizarre story regarding "the bomb", glad you were able to put it all into perspective and not let it bother you, totally enjoying your trip reports :D
