We will be on St. John for one night on July 2nd. Have been to St John several times but never this early. Will it be crazy in town because of carnival? How about St. Thomas? We will be leaving the next day for a catamaran trip and will return in a week. I know all the craziness will be over by then.

My husband and I were there for the first week in July for our honeymoon last year and it was a ton of fun - there were definitely a lot more people there for Carnival and the parking lot in town was packed with all of the vendors (food and drinks) and the bandstand for night-time steel drums, reggae and dancers. If your into that, you will have a lot of fun - the island vibe is in full force!

As an asid, my husband and I came from Tortola the week prior after our wedding and one of our wedding guests went to St. Thomas the Saturday before - it was June 30th - they were going to stay a night in St. Thomas before flying to St. Maarten because they wanted to do some shopping. However, since St. Thomas' Carnival is usually the week prior to St. John's Carnival, nothing was open in St. Thomas - no stores and restaurants. I don't know when St. Thomas' Carnival is this year but just keep that in mind. Have fun!!! We had a blast.

St Thomas carnival has ended - it is in April. If you were in STT on a Sunday all the shops close at 1pm and if you are in "off" season and there are no ships in port then alot of stores will close but unusual for them to do that in July usually it is more in the Aug Sept time frame.
As far as STJ goes I hope you have a reservation as I am surprised you could find one for 1 nite during carnival - you will have a good time
