Drive down to Kiddel and/or Grootpan

Post by Pickle »

We haven't returned to Kiddel since 2009. The road down to the beach was rough and bumpy and we assume that hasn't changed. What made us keep wincing were plants and bushes sticking out into the narrow road and scratching the rental jeep. It was off-season and the island was quite green. Does anyone know if that’s still generally the case? Is the road down to Grootpan similar in condition?

Would like to return but I'm wimpy about possibly making marks on the jeep, especially if the jeep looks newish.

We always get a little mixed up out there. We have been to both. This year we went to what I think was Grootpan. I don't remember it being real bad. I will say we had a clunker of a rental jeep so I wasn't too concerned anyway. The snorkling there was really really good and we were alone on the beach all day.

I shouldn't answer this. I should just keep my mouth shut. We love being the only one's there even in high season. But when we went last year the whole road had been regraded from the main road down to Grootpan. The foliage had been graded back also and those scratches you got on the rental car will rub out.

Thank you, Joppa. We hope to get at least a slightly beat-up looking jeep but always seem to get a good looking one.

BillVT, I understand how you feel... and I appreciate your information. :)
