Cell Phone Service St John

Hi,
I know this has been discussed before but I am looking for updated information if any.
I have Verizon and I know it doesnt work well on STJ or else you incur huge roaming fees.
Is the best bet to buy a Trac fone at Walmart? We are staying at the Westin.

AT&T go phone is your best bet

Hello jdjcmaso, we have Verizon and were on STJ in January. You can text all you want with no extra charges. Verizon considers STJ as international and you will be charged 1.99 a minute for phone calls while on the island. So we didn't use our phones to make calls. My brother in law, who was with us, had sprint and they didn't charge any extra for his cell phone calls on STJ. We also used the landline in the villa to make local calls and i had a pre-paid phone card with me. If you need to make a lot of calls back home while you're on the island it may be a good idea to have a go phone.

Agree with the AT&T Go Phone recommendation. If you buy one, however, I suggest not going with the cheapest model, as I did. The audio quality of the flip phone we bought is sub par.

AT&T service was not good in early January (apparently due to work on one of the STT towers), but it improved later in the month.

Someone on this board indicated that Verizon might be putting towers on USVI, so check on that before you leave.
