Quick Report - Presidents Week

Post by Jeff&Cindy »

Just some observations and highlights from our week on STJ last week. This was our second trip in 2 years. Yes, we're already talking...

Again, I over packed... and we did carry-on. Followed someone's idea and walked through the snow to the airport in Tevas (and socks) and zip-off pants. Good idea! Apparently, a bag of ground coffee will set the TSA folks into a tizzy if it's packed in your suitcase. Better off just putting it into a bin and letting them look at it.

We stayed in the same villa as last year (loved it). We even wound up renting the same Jeep as last year! (from Courtesy)

Worst part of trip: Air Travel. We're forced into Presidents week due to Cindy's work. I'd love to know what an empty seat on an airplane looks like.

Best part of trip: Nearly every moment on the island.

Highlights: Hiking Ram's Head. This is now on our 'must do' list for another time. We're trying to figure out how early we'd need to start to watch the sunrise from there. We took our second trip to Jost with Kekoa, and this too is on our 'must do' list. This year we were so lucky to have seen the whales during our trip on 2/21.

Some opinions:

We love Solomon Beach. Unless there's a shortcut we don't know about, it is a bit of a challenge to get to. But it's so pretty, and we had the whole place to ourselves for hours one day.

Afternoon parking at Caneel to go to Honeymoon is a winner. Stop off at the bar and get a couple of painkillers from Jackie to settle up your parking. It's a perfect end to a perfect afternoon.

High Tide makes really great burgers. Skinny Legs are pretty good too. Didn't try Woody's, but their blackened shrimp was awesome. (better than another more upscale restaurant in town) Lunch at Deli Grotto was great. Sam & Jacks was good too. (we took sandwiches 'home' for dinner one day) Tap Room makes a great blackened chicken sandwich to go with their brews.

If you made it as far as Honeymoon it is only a few minutes farther to Salomon -- just west of the NPS house on the point between the 2 beaches.
