New camera tips!

Post by PaminMaine »

My new camera a Nikon AW100 arrived today! Just wondering if anyone who has the same camera has any special tips for taking great photos underwater, settings, etc ?? I am undecided if I should purchase a square trade warranty ...? Purchased from Walmart, not sure about their return policy if it leaks.

I have the AW100. I have had underwater film cameras in the past also.

With all underwater cameras, be sure to keep all of the seals clean. I never open the battery/memory card compartment outside, especially not on the beach. Also after using in salt water or chlorine you should soak it in fresh water for 15 minutes or so, then dry with a cloth before opening the camera.

I found that I got the best underwater pictures using the underwater setting, and the beach setting out of the water. I used my Nikon land camera for everything else. I've noticed over the years that underwater cameras don't do well in low light, so I use my regular camera in the evenings.

Here is a link to our snorkeling pix from November.

As you can see, the closer you are to your subject the better the pictures. These show a variety of clarity, depending on how deep the turtle or manta ray went...
Hopes this helps! Enjoy your camera and St. John!
