It was a quickie!

Post by lprof »

Our (UF Prof and me) quickie two day trip to St John was great!
February 5, we flew on Jet Blue (from JAX) to San Juan and then to St Thomas. Despite rain and a pretty splashy ride from Charlotte Amalie on the 5:30 ferry, we were sitting at the bar at High Tide by seven… met up with Knolmom and Capt Brandi per plan and then by surprise with P-600. Meeting VIOL peeps and their mates is terrific!

We stayed at the Cruz Bay Boutique Hotel for three nights. It was comfortable and convenient, and we would certainly be happy to stay there again… a review and photos will be posted soon.

Wednesday morning was gloomy and cool with some rain showers. We walked down to Wharfside Village and stopped to say good morning to a shivering Pia… good luck smiled as Xislandgirl and hubby walked up… another good VIOL encounter! After a quick visit with Ruth, Ron and Curly at St John Spice, we wandered around Mongoose Junction and had lunch at the Sun Dog Cafe.

By mid afternoon the sun was out, so we did the Lind Point hike to Honeymoon Bay… easy enough!
After a little exploring Caneel Bay Resort we took a quick taxi back to town.

Dinner was enjoyed at Rhumb Lines, just steps from the hotel.

Thursday was a perfect beach day… we headed back to Honeymoon Bay via taxi, rented two plastic
Adirondack chairs from the Honeymoon Hut (comfortable!) and found our place in the sun. There were day trippers dropped off for an hour, from time to time, to snorkel off the west end of the beach, but they didn't bother our bliss. We walked over to the Caneel Beach Bar and Grill for a nice lunch. A big iguana (at least 4 ft) made his way through the diners' tables. Excitement!!!

The hotel is upstairs above Da Livio Restaurant, so we slipped down there for pizza… very good! Simple decor… accented with wine corks. They were bustling! Loved my waiter!!!

Friday started early with catching the 6 AM ferry (it was dark!); almost no traffic from Red Hook to the airport at that hour and before long we had boarded Jet Blue and headed back to San Juan for a long "work" weekend.

It was a very good trip although we had a rather rough return home on Monday night.
Within hours we lost our beloved cat who was almost 18.
The good life is not always gentle; seize and embrace all the moments, they go by quickly….

That may have been quick, but you covered a lot of territory. I had a hard time moving Don out of those plastic Adirondack chairs.

You rolled through the gloomy morning the way I would :)

Sorry again about Currey.

Of course you are the pet!!

His brother Murrey picked me; Currey and my husband had a stronger bond. Mike is our son and both cats had him wrapped around their paws! Unplanned adoptions... never a second of regret!

Great quick report! So sorry for your loss. The same thing happen to my hubby and I several years ago. She was 17+ years old and waited until we got home from vacation :( (((hugs)))

After such a wonderful mini- vacation, it is so sad that you had to return home to loose your pet.

The STJ trip was short and busy; somehow it seemed easier... yet just as rewarding, if not more, as longer ones.

Thanks to you all for your caring words and nice comments; they are much appreciated!

Looks like you made the best of your couple of days on St. John. I share your sentiment that short trips are just as rewarding as longer ones. Glad that you decided to go for it. I am very sorry about Currey's passing.

We ran into two separate couples this week that are staying there. Both were very happy with it.

Sorry to hear about kitty. We have a 20 yo waiting for us at home......
