Villa "showing socials" in June?
Villa "showing socials" in June?
Hey folks, I'm going to throw a crazy idea out there for June....noticing that there are a number of people traveling to STJ mid June when we are...
I was thinking it might be fun to have a couple social gatherings at our Villas rather than go to the bars to meet. Two big reasons I thought of this...
1) I'm thinking some of the other folks are staying at nice villas I'd like to check out, aand they might like to check mine out!
2) I'm not sure I'm going to drag my kids down to the bar for a social, they would live through it but it isn't their cup of tea...
So I just wanted to throw the idea out there and I'm sure some of us may discuss it more as we close in on June...it could be fun, kinda like some neighborhood parties we have attended where you go from house to house to eat different courses of a meal and socialize at each house...
Cheers!

Re: Villa Gravity Parties in June?
sherban,
I am wondering if it's allowed for renters to have parties at most villa's.
I know both our contracts for different villa says no visitors..just the people listed on the rental agreement are suppose to be there.
Not saying it's not a good idea,I'm saying to check your contract.
It would be a bummer to get kicked out or charged more.
Just a heads up.

I think in the villa agreements, it says that no extra people will be "staying" in the villa. I'm sure you can have guests for dinner. I'm also sure that a large, loud party would not be okay.
I won't be there until November, but I hope you all have fun at your get together! It sounds fun!

Hi, I got this off of one of our villa contracts. Will they enforce it, who knows, but to be on the safe side I'd check your contract first... It may be as simple as a phone call, or email for permission, to enjoy a get together.

"QUIET ENJOYMENT AND PARTIES: ***, *** wishes to maintain a family atmosphere for the quiet enjoyment of Guests. We rent to family and responsible adults only; absolutely NO house parties or functions such as weddings are allowed without advance WRITTEN permission from ****, ***. Guests shall be sufficiently quiet and peaceful, so as not to disturb other residents of the neighborhood, particularly after 10 pm at night. If Guest is found to have had a wedding or any sort of group gathering for more persons than officially scheduled and paid for at the villa, and/or without ****, *** advance written permission, he is subject to forfeiture of his entire villa security deposit to the villa’s owner, at the joint discretion of ****, ***."

We won't be there in June to join you, but it does sound like a great idea! Don't think of it as a party so much, instead think of it as a way to show people around the villa and encourage them to book it for their next vacation! It would just be a coincidence if there happens to be cold drinks and snacks out.

Wow...never know where these posts will go!
Yeah, I wasn't thinking PARTY (as in nekkid toga, hanging from the chandelier)...I was thinking relaxing social with an opportunity to see a potential future rental property...

I think it sounds like a great idea...maybe if it was like an open house or progressive dinner it would go over best with everyone! I think we have similar tastes in villas. I wish I could be there in June!

Sounds like fun! I would have to check with our villa mates and our villa owner.

Re: Villa "showing socials" in June?
Progressive dinner...yes, that's the kind of thing I was thinking about...especially if a few of us are on the same side of the island...which I think is true...Kentuckygirl wrote:I think it sounds like a great idea...maybe if it was like an open house or progressive dinner it would go over best with everyone! ...and the way to cure the worries about THE RULES, is to invite the rental agent!

Cheers!

Whoa. I see what you mean, Betsy. It sounds like these owners were permanently traumatized by a rental that snuck in a wedding and want to make absolutely sure THAT never happens again. I don't think the standard rental contract has that language in it.betsyv wrote:Bonny in CA wrote: Hi, I got this off of one of our villa contracts. Re: Villa "showing socials" in June?
Actually that is the standard contract language for an excellent island-based villa management company. I have signed that contract many times, and hope to sign it many more times in the future.dreamshark wrote:Whoa. I see what you mean, Betsy. It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
Re: Villa "showing socials" in June?
This thread raises some good issues; everybody wins when visitors have a chance to see other villas, as long as things are conducted in a responsible fashion. During our visit last month, we had six people (two groups from this forum) over to Coconuts one evening for sunset and hors d'oeuvres, and a good time was had by all. In our case, we're free to do this, but I dare say that if a villa renter with an established track record wanted to hold a similarly low-key get together, and called the rental manager, they would probably be green-lighted. It is free advertising for them, after all. Mentioning a time for all to be out and headed back to their respective villas wouldn't hurt, and it gets dark early on St. John; I think that our soiree broke up around 7 PM. If any guests at Coconuts are interested in holding such an affair, PM me with details, and I'll see if I can advocate on your behalf. We've also arranged for prospective renters from the forum to get a tour of Coconuts when it wasn't rented, although that wouldn't work for groups, and these days it is mostly rented.
All the best,
Kevin

All the best,
Kevin

Thanks for the inputs here, I definately hadn't envisioned this thread becoming a discussion about contractual terms or "if this is allowed", but that is the beauty of a forum...you get different viewpoints on things....I appreciate your inputs!
I'll be reaching out to a few people via PM to persue these ideas.
I'll also mention this to our rental agent, I'm confident that they will see it as a good thing.
Cheers-
