Pulling my hair out over April accomodations!

Post by mindehankins »

Boy, can I just vent? This is getting SO frustrating!

I found an awesome place at a fantastic rate, emailed the owner and everything looked great, but we had to get vacation time approved. We did, and we booked flights for this place's availability, that was in high season. And a Jeep. And then the place was booked!

No worries, I said. I've been researching, I said. There are other places, I said.

I checked on Seascape, emailed and spoke with the owner on the phone. I told him I had to approve the higher rental rate with my husband and I'd get back to him within 2 hours. I emailed him 20 minutes later, because I was at work and there's NO time to talk on the phone at work. When I got home from work there was an email waiting : "Well you lost out again. You were to call back again and no call. I go a request for those date and told them Seascape was available." I emailed him back saying I'd sent a go-ahead 20 minutes after our phone call. He acknowledged that he'd missed the email and offered to cancel the reservation he'd made. I can't let him do that, though, and ruin someone else's vacation planning. So I told him we'd move on.

No worries, I said. I've been researching, I said. There are other places, I said.

I emailed with the managers for Waterklip, and said ok, send me the contract. I hadn't noticed that they don't accept credit cards, and we put our travel on the Venture card. OK. Nevermind.

Dreamshark gave me a bunch of ideas by PM and she thought I should look at Jasmine. I didn't like all this putzing around and decided to go back to the management company that we've always dealt with - Caribbean Villas. I spoke with the girls in the office and thought Jasmine would be appropriate and we could afford it in high season, so....ok, send me the contract. In the email accompanying the contract, it says "payment MUST be by check." I paid this company with the Venture card for the trip with Jillian!

So now I have emails and phone calls made to Windspree, Lavender Hill and Private Homes for Private Vacations. I don't know how you all deal with the stress of the search! I just want to find a place and rent it repeatedly. I do want to point out my mistake of making high season flight reservations without having a place to stay locked in. Arrrrghhh!

Rant over. Thank you for letting me go on!

If anyone happens to have a lead on something April 4-11, with AC in the bedroom, a pool, and accepts credit card payment, at about $2500, give me a shout!

The ones on VRBO all seem to be way out of our price range, Barb, cause it's high season. I don't know how to find any that aren't on VRBO.

minde what are your dates?
and what are your absolute MUST haves?
i know of a place that has a valley view up above josephines that is super affordable -- though not very luxurious. and a bit funky in layout-- but very comfortable and it has a pool. PM me if you want ..

Thank you, Lori! I appreciate the help, but as of 10 minutes ago, we're good. And Emily at Cimmaron is my new hero!

there are a few really great cheaper places that we have found -- they have issues.. but for the price they cannot be beat. blue wrasse (no pool, weird layout, super tiny- but fine for two, nice view wirelss and satellite and AC) 800 off season 1200 on and takes CC. also sweet spice-- some layout issues-- no wireless or cable (at least ther wasn't) but a pool-- no view of water. 1200/wk

anyway, keep those in your file for cheap digs.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who totally stresses out making villa & flight arrangements!! I have some sense of relief once the reservations are confirmed, but I still worry. Right now I'm just worrying that someone else will get our villa while I wait for my husbands company to figure out this year's schedule!

Will do, Lori! Thanks!

Bonny, I don't always, but I did this time. We normally go in low season, but this year it was two trips in high season and that was stressing me out alot!

Minde so glad you found a place. We are coming in on the 6th first 2 nights at GB then on to the Westin. Maybe we will run into you. Keep your eyes open for a group of women in their 40+ acting like they are in their 20s. Hope you got good fares out of buff. Looks like they are in 300's right now. We are going from Roch this time. Much easier! Hope to see ya in paradise

So glad you found Cimmaron. As I started to read your post I was going to recommend that you contact them. They are on island and very professional. Dave and Robin keep a great staff. They are also the property managers for our place and we are very pleased with them. They have been a enormous help getting our place back in shape.
